The vaccine most consumed in India, will soon disappear from the drug shelves of the country as AstraZeneca on Tuesday announced it had initiated the worldwide withdrawal of its COVID 19 vaccine due to a ''surplus of available updated vaccines'' since the pandemic.
The UK-based pharmaceutical company in collaboration with the Serum Institute of India (SII), the world's largest vaccine manufacturer, had made available the Covishield vaccine to the Indian population.

COVID duty by PG medicos to be considered as bond service: HC
Granting relief to a doctor, the Madurai bench of Madras High Court recently held that the COVID duty performed by PG medicos should be treated as bond service. With this observation, the HC bench comprising Justice GR Swaminathan also reiterated that educational certificates cannot be retained for any reason.
Clarifying that educational certificates are not marketable commodities, the bench directed the Dean of Government Thanjavur Medical College, where the petitioner doctor pursued his postgraduation, to return the original certificates without any delay.

Postponing NEET SS 2024 would compound existing challenges for aspirants: Doctors urge NMC to clarify on exam date
Taking up the concerns of the aspirants regarding the possible date for conducting the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Super Speciality (NEET-SS) 2024 examination, the doctors have now requested urgent clarification and action regarding the exam from the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Writing to NMC, doctors under the Indian Medical Association Junior Doctors' Network (IMA-JDN) referred to the communication by the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) dated 23.02.2024, through which the PG Board of NMC had indicated the possibility of not conducting NEET-SS 2024 in the current year and postpone it to 2025.

A new Covid-19 variant known as FLiRT belonging to Omicron's JN.1 lineage is rapidly spreading across several countries, including the US, UK, New Zealand, and South Korea. Experts warn that FLiRT has the ability to evade the immune system due to a trans substitution of amino acids between two spike proteins.
According to experts, this variant is rapidly replacing the previous variant, Eris in the US, UK, New Zealand, and South Korea.
