Top NMC posts remain vacant, health ministry responds

For several months, the key positions at the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Apex Medical Education Regulatory Body in India, have been lying vacant, revealed a reply to a Right to Information (RTI) application.

Responding to the RTI application filed by Health Activist Dr. KV Babu, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed that 10 of the 19 positions at the Commission are vacant.

Rangaraya Medical College house surgeon sacked for one year over ragging MBBS students

A house surgeon at Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada, has been suspended for one year after being accused of ragging the second-year MBBS students at the institute.

The accused house surgeon allegedly entered the hostel of the second-year MBBS male students in an inebriated state and ragged them for four hours by hurling abuses at them, The Hindu has reported. Apart from being suspended for one year, the college authorities have also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the doctor.

Courts must exercise caution when ordering vacant seats at medical colleges: SC

The Supreme Court recently held that even though courts have power to make orders directing to keep medical seats vacant at medical colleges, they should exercise great caution while doing so.

"If provisional admission seats are not to be given casually, the said principal should also apply for directions to keep seats vacant. Only if there is a cast iron case for the petitioner and the petitioner is bound to succeed in cases where the error of the respondent authorities is so gross as to negate any other conclusion, interim orders keeping seats vacant could be made," opined the top court bench comprising Justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan.

CBI registers case against 2nd-year Medical student for appearing as proxy in NEET 2024 exam

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which was tasked with investigating the irregularities in the conduct of the National Eligibility-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024 examination, has registered a fresh case in this connection, PTI has reported.

CBI has booked a woman medical student, who was caught taking the UG medical entrance examination for an aspirant in Navi Mumbai, officials said on Saturday. The Bureau took over the investigation from the Maharashtra Police on the state government's recommendation.
