Manipal Hospital slapped Rs 10 lakh compensation for faulty intubation during anaesthesia

The Supreme Court recently directed Manipal Hospital to pay Rs 10 lakh compensation to the widow of a patient who developed hoarseness in his voice as a result of faulty insertion of a double lumen tube while administering anaesthesia.

While the District Consumer Court had granted Rs 5 lakh Compensation and the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) upheld the same, the Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah enhanced the amount of compensation to Rs 10 lakhs.

Health Ministry slams Mumbai Hospital over allocation mix-up of DrNB Cardiology seat

Even after being allocated a Doctorate of National Board (DrNB) seat in Cardiology, a Pune-based doctor was denied admission at LH Hiranandani Hospital in Powai after it was revealed that another candidate had already been admitted by the hospital on the same spot during the previous admission round.

During the third or special counselling round, the aspirant was allocated one of the two seats available for DrNB in Cardiology. However, he was shocked to find out that the concerned seat was already filled in the second round.

Following this, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), which conducts the admission, slammed the hospital for its failure to update the joining of the other candidate on the official portal of the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

Max Hospital Gurugram accused for Hiking Doctor Consultation Fees, Hospital denies

In a recent controversy, Gurugram-based Max Hospital has been accused of hiking doctors' consultation fees and withdrawing senior citizen's waiver.

The allegation against the hospital has been brought by one Akshat Shrivastava, a social media influencer. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), as well as LinkedIn, the Youtuber claimed that when his mother visited Max Hospital in Gurugram eight months ago, the doctors kept pushing her for more specialists' consultation. The X post has already been viewed by more than 529000 people, and liked by around 4,300 users.

Hospital Medical Superintendent caught with Rs 3 lakh bribe

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught red-handed a Superintendent from the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Nalgonda on Friday while accepting a bribe of Rs three lakhs.

The accused officer, Dr L Latchu, was nabbed by the ACB while demanding and receiving the bribe from the complainant, Rapolu Venkanna of Nalgonda Town.

The bribe was solicited in exchange for a favour, namely, refraining from initiating tenders for non-tender products and maintaining the orders issued by Dr Latchu on March 16, 2023, for the supply of non-tender products at discounted rates –- 10 per cent for surgical items and 6 per cent for drugs based on MRP, and for the supply of these products by the complainant, An ACB statement said on Saturday.
