Nipah virus: Kerala on alert after teen tests positive in Malappuram
A 14-year-old boy in Kerala's Malappuram has tested positive for the Nipah virus, prompting the state to go on high alert. Kerala Health Minister Veena George chaired a high-level meeting to strategize containment measures, focusing on public safety and outbreak control. A 24-hour control room has been set up at the government rest house in Malappuram. Authorities are compiling a list of individuals who had contact with the boy and will test samples from high-risk areas. Decisions on imposing restrictions within a 3-kilometre radius of the outbreak's epicentre will be made soon.
Minister George is personally overseeing the response efforts in Malappuram, with committees established to enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for virus control.
