Medical negligence: Consumer court cases can go simultaneously with criminal cases, says NCDRC

In a judgment that is going to have a major impact on medical negligence cases, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has held that consumer court complaints for alleged medical negligence can be initiated, continued or adjudicated simultaneously along with criminal cases.

Referring to the Supreme Court judgment in Guru Granth Saheb Sthan Meerghat Vanaras Vs. Ved Prakash & Ors., where the question of simultaneous prosecution of the criminal proceedings with civil suit had come up for consideration, the NCDRC panel comprising of Dr S.M. Kantikar and Binoy Kumar pointed out that in that case, the top court had pointed out that no hard and fast rule could be laid down in this regard.

 In a bid to better diagnose and control health issues like diabetes mellitus, the Tamil Nadu Government has urged the Central Government to give permission for commencing a new course on M.D Diabetology, Nutrition, and Metabolism.

The proposal, which has come from the State aiming at increasing the number of professional healthcare providers in India, has expressed the possibility of converting the already existing diploma in Diabetology seats to degree seats.

NBE to conduct Foreign Dental Screening Test 2021 for BDS graduates on 11th January

The National Board of Examinations (NBE), has released the detailed conduct of the Foreign Dental Screening Test 2021 for BDS Graduates scheduled to be held next month, January 2022.

All the concerned Indian Citizen/OCI obtaining Primary Dental Qualification from outside India are advised to refer to their application to the Dental Council of India for the Foreign Dental Screening Test – 2021.

Centre warns against Remdesivir use in patients not on oxygen support

The Centre on Friday said Remdesivir drug should only be used in patients with 'moderate to severe' COVID-19 and those with no renal or hepatic dysfunction within 10 days of the onset of any symptom. It also warned against use of the drug in patients who are not on oxygen support or in home settings.

According to the clinical guidance issued by the Union health ministry for management of the infection in adult patients, Remdesivir has been asked to be "used in patients with moderate to severe COVID-19 and those with no renal or hepatic dysfunction within 10 days of onset of any symptom".
