Private hospital fined Rs 8 lakh for negligence causing muscle damage
Coming down heavily on a private hospital in Sonarpur, located on the southern outskirts of the city, the West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission (WBCERC) has instructed the facility to pay compensation worth Rs 8 lakh to the family of a three-year-old boy following allegations of negligent treatment, which reportedly resulted in significant muscle damage to the child's hand.
The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission, chaired by retired judge Ashim Banerjee, issued the compensation order on Thursday. Banerjee stated that the negligence has left the boy with persistent numbness in his fingers, with no assurance that his hand will ever return to normal.

Karnataka govt bill proposes up to 3 months jail, Rs 10,000 fine for insulting doctors online
Persons causing "intentional insult" to doctors either directly or indirectly through social media will now face penalty in Karnataka as the State Legislative Assembly has now passed the Karnataka Medical Registration and Certain Other Law (Amendment) Bill 2024.
As per the new amendments introduced by the Government, anyone found guilty of insulting a doctor directly, on social media or using unauthorised audio and video will be punished with a jail term extending up to three months or with a fine extending up to Rupees 10 thousand.

Maharashtra prepares appeal against NMC's GMC rejection, enhances manpower
After the National Medical Commission's (NMC) rejection to approve the proposed government medical colleges in Maharashtra, the State Government is ramping up the manpower as it is planning to appeal before the Commission in this regard.
Confirming this, a senior official from the State Medical Education Department told Indian Express, "We will appeal against the decision. Simultaneously, we are ramping up manpower."

UP MBBS interns boycott duties, demand stipend increase from Rs 12,000 to Rs 30,000
The MBBS interns in Uttar Pradesh Government Medical Colleges across 14 districts of the State have been protesting against the meagre amount of stipend they receive during their internship programme.
For the last five days, the medicos have been boycotting their hospital duties demanding a stipend hike. Claiming that they receive the lowest stipend i.e. Rs 12,000 per month across the country, the UP MBBS Interns have demanded that the amount should be raised to at least Rs 30,000 per month.
