A team of central agencies and the Uttar Pradesh drug department on Thursday carried out an inspection at the Noida office of a pharmaceutical firm whose cough syrup is allegedly linked to the death of 18 children in Uzbekistan, officials said.
The company, Marion Biotech, does not sell the cough syrup, 'Doc-1 Max', in India and its only export has been to Uzbekistan, a state government official said.

NMC releases draft gazette on NEXT with details, invites comments
Waiting for the end for thousands of medicos across the country, the Apex medical regulation, National Medical Commission has finally released the proposed draft regulations related to National Exit Test (NExT) clearly specifying that it will serve as both a licentiate exam for the purpose of practice of modern medicine for both Indian Medicos and Foreign Medical Graduates and also as a gateway entrance Examination for admission to courses Postgraduate Medical Education.
The draft further provides all the details related to the NExT exam detailing its objective, applicability, its bifurcation into STEP 1 and STEP 2 and how these two steps examinations be conducted as well as the calculations and validity and the uses of the NeXT scores. Currently, it is not specified which body will conduct the exam. The draft notes that NEXT step 1 scores will be used towards PG entrance and NEXT STEP 2 will be a qualifying exam. The validity the NEXT STEP 1 scores towards PG entrance shall be 3 years and at the same time there is no limit on the attempts at both the exams provided that the candidate has passed both NExT Step 1 and NExT Step 2 Examination within 10 years of joining the MBBS Course

NMC releases revised guidelines for medical education unit, waives additional qualifications for faculty till 2024
Releasing the revised regulations for the Medical Education Unit (MEU), the National Medical Commission has informed about its decision of offering exemption to the medical college resource faculties for obtaining additional qualifications such as an Advance Course in Medical Education (ACME) or Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) fellowship until January 31, 2024.
Such a decision has been taken by the Apex medical commission as it noted that several medical colleges are not fulfilling the requirements for additional requirements and as a result Revised Basic Course Workshop (rBCW) training of the faculty is getting affected.

Centre says India may see surge in Covid cases in January
Union Health Ministry Wednesday said that the next 40 days are going to be crucial for India, as the country may see an increase in coronavirus cases in the month of January.
"Previously, it has been noticed that a new wave of COVID-19 hits India around 30-35 days after it hits East Asia.... This has been a trend," an official told PTI.
