2,240 MD, MS, Diploma, DM, MCh seats across Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Manipur
New Delhi: A total of 2,240 postgraduate and super speciality medical seats are available across Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Manipur for the academic year 2026-27, according to the latest seat matrix released by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The seats include postgraduate MD and MS courses, along with Doctorate of Medicine (DM), Master of Chirurgiae (MCh), and diploma courses across government and private medical colleges and deemed universities in the state.
In the state-wise breakup of the postgraduate medical seats, Chhattisgarh has 651 seats, Uttarakhand has 648 seats, Himachal Pradesh has 375 seats, Jharkhand has 292 seats, and Manipur has 274 seats. Altogether, these five states and Union Territories account for 2,240 postgraduate and super speciality medical seats.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the NMC released a seat matrix showing a total of 63,177 MD, MS, Diploma, DM and MCh medical seats for the academic year 2026-27. However, the Apex Medical Commission clarified that the seat matrix does not include seats related to applications received for an increase in the intake of existing PG courses or for the commencement of new PG courses for the academic year 2026-27.
Chhattisgarh
According to the latest seat matrix, there are 651 postgraduate and super-speciality medical seats in Chhattisgarh for the academic year 2026–27. Among the various specialities, MD General Medicine has the highest number of seats at 65.
This is followed by MS General Surgery with 63 seats and MD Anaesthesiology with 48 seats, MD Community Medicine/Social and Preventive Medicine and MD Pathology have 44 seats each; MS Orthopaedics has 40 seats, and MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology has 38 seats.
Further, MD Paediatrics has 34 seats, followed by MD Radio-Diagnosis/Radiology with 30 seats, MS Ophthalmology with 29 seats, MS Otorhinolaryngology/ENT with 26 seats, MD Microbiology with 24 seats, and MD Biochemistry with 23 seats. MD Anatomy and MD Forensic Medicine and Toxicology/Forensic Medicine have 19 seats each, as does MD Psychiatry. MD Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy/Dermatology, MD Pharmacology, and MD Respiratory Medicine/Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases have 16 seats each, while MD Physiology has 14 seats.
MD Radiation Oncology/Radiotherapy has six seats, while MCh Paediatric Surgery, MCh Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and MCh Surgical Oncology have three seats each. MD Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and DM Cardiology, MCh Neurosurgery, and MD Emergency Medicine have two seats each.

According to the latest seat matrix, Uttarakhand has 648 postgraduate and super-speciality medical seats for the academic year 2026–27. Among the various specialities, MD Anaesthesiology has the highest number of seats at 65.
MD General Medicine has 56 seats, MS General Surgery has 51 seats, and MD Paediatrics has 48 seats. MD Pathology has 42 seats, while MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology has 40 seats. MD Radio-Diagnosis/Radiology has 29 seats, MS Ophthalmology has 28 seats, and MS Orthopaedics has 27 seats.
Meanwhile, MD Anatomy and MD Microbiology have 23 seats each, MD Physiology has 22 seats, MD Community Medicine/Social and Preventive Medicine has 21 seats. MS Otorhinolaryngology/ENT has 19 seats, while MD Respiratory Medicine/Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases has 14 seats. MD Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy/Dermatology has 13 seats, while MD Biochemistry and MD Psychiatry have 12 seats each.
Further, MD Forensic Medicine and Toxicology/Forensic Medicine has 10 seats, while DM Cardiology and MCh Surgical Oncology have nine seats each. DM Neurology and MCh Urology have eight seats each; DM Critical Care Medicine and MD Radiation Oncology/Radiotherapy have seven seats each and MD Emergency Medicine has six seats; DM Neonatology, DM Nephrology, MCh Neurosurgery, and MD Immuno Haematology and Blood Transfusion have three seats each, while DM Medical Gastroenterology and MCh Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery have two seats each.

According to the latest seat matrix, there are 375 postgraduate medical seats in Himachal Pradesh for the academic year 2026–27. Among the various specialities, MD General Medicine has the highest number of seats at 41.
MD Anaesthesiology has 40 seats, MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology has 38 seats, and MS General Surgery has 36 seats, MD Paediatrics has 32 seats, MD Radio-Diagnosis/Radiology has 29 seats and MS Orthopaedics has 25 seats, MD Microbiology has 13 seats, while MD Community Medicine/Social and Preventive Medicine, MD Pathology, and MS Otorhinolaryngology/ENT have 14 seats each.
Meanwhile, MD Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy/Dermatology and MD Pharmacology have 11 seats each, while MD Psychiatry and MS Ophthalmology have 10 seats each. MD Physiology has eight seats, MD Respiratory Medicine/Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases has seven seats, and MD Anatomy has seven seats, MD Forensic Medicine and Toxicology/Forensic Medicine has six seats, MD Biochemistry has five seats and MD Radiation Oncology/Radiotherapy has four seats.
The seat matrix has zero seats for all six diploma courses: Diploma in Anaesthesiology (D.A.), Diploma in Clinical Pathology (D.C.P.), Diploma in Orthopaedics (D.Orth.), Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (D.L.O.), Diploma in Paediatrics (D.C.H.), and Diploma in Radiodiagnosis (D.M.R.D.).

Among the various specialities, MD Psychiatry has the highest number of seats at 35, while the lowest number of seats is two, shared by DM Cardiology and DM Critical Care Medicine.
MS General Surgery has 33 seats, MD General Medicine has 27 seats. MD Pathology and MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology have 22 seats each, while MD Anaesthesiology and MD Paediatrics have 18 seats each.
Meanwhile, MS Orthopaedics has 12 seats, MS Ophthalmology has 11 seats, MD Pharmacology has 10 seats, MD Community Medicine/Social and Preventive Medicine, MD Physiology, and MS Otorhinolaryngology/ENT have nine seats each, while MD Forensic Medicine and Toxicology/Forensic Medicine has eight seats. MD Anatomy, MD Biochemistry, and MD Radio-Diagnosis/Radiology have seven seats each, followed by MD Microbiology with six seats and MD Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy/Dermatology with five seats.
Among the super-speciality courses, MCh Neurosurgery has four seats, while MCh Paediatric Surgery has three seats. DM Cardiology and DM Critical Care Medicine have two seats each.
Among the diploma courses, Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (D.G.O.), Diploma in Paediatrics (D.C.H.), and Diploma in Radiodiagnosis (D.M.R.D.) have two seats each.

MD Community Medicine/Social and Preventive Medicine has 12 seats, while MD Biochemistry and MD Radio-Diagnosis/Radiology have 11 seats each. MS Orthopaedics and MD Physiology have 11 and 10 seats, respectively, while MS Ophthalmology has nine seats.
