National dental commission directs dental colleges to update faculty, biometric attendance details, gives deadline
New Delhi: Through a recent notice, the Dental Assessment and Rating Board (DARB) under the National Dental Commission (NDC) has issued a directive to all dental colleges to mandatorily update faculty details and biometric attendance records on the designated online portal, giving institutions a strict deadline to comply as part of efforts to ensure adherence to academic and regulatory standards.
"The Dental Assessment and Rating Board (DARB) of the National Dental Commission has, in order to maintain the standard of dental education, decided to monitor the details of faculties viz. their minimum required biometric attendance and other details pertaining to their academic activities in all dental colleges to ensure compliance with prescribed norms. In this regard, you are requested to update the complete details of faculty members of your college on the online portal of NDC (erstwhile DCI) website using their credentials," the NDC has directed the dental colleges.
"The updated information shall be taken into account for all regulatory, academic, inspection, and other official purposes relating to the institution. The same may please be updated immediately and confirm the same within 03 days from the date of issue of this letter. Further, non compliance of the above instructions will be viewed seriously and may invite appropriate action as per rules," the notice added.
The government last month announced the formation of the National Dental Commission (NDC) along with three autonomous boards, replacing the Dental Council of India (DCI).
According to a statement from the Health Ministry, the official notifications were issued on March 19, and the new NDC framework has come into effect from the same date.
This is touted as a major reform aimed at improving the quality of dental education and aligning it with global standards.
With the coming into force of the NDC Act from 19th March, 2026, the Dentists Act, 1948 stands repealed, and the Dental Council of India is dissolved with effect from the same date, the ministry said in a statement.
Dr. Sanjay Tewari has been appointed as Chairperson of the NDC, and Dr. Mousumi Goswami as its Part-Time Member, according to the ministry.
