Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) announced the last date for the submission of the progress report of the dissertation for PG guides and students.

As per the notification, all PG guides and students are requested to submit the 6 monthly progress reports of the dissertation in the prescribed format/proforma for the format. They can refer to the PG Dissertation Guidelines-2020 book, page numbers 14 & lb. The reports should reach the Office of the Dean (Research) on or before 31st July 2022.

The PG students must submit a dissertation as partial fulfilment of their course curriculum. Dissertation work involves carrying out an original research project by a PG student under the guidance/supervision of a faculty member within the course period and submitting a report in the form of a book. The course will not be complete, and the degrees will not be awarded without submitting dissertation books.

Research competency is one of the requirements of postgraduate medical education; hence, dissertation work is made mandatory for postgraduate students. The objective is to train the students in various aspects of research and enable them to acquire skills in planning, execution, analysis and reporting, which will be helpful to them carry out research independently in their careers.

The PG students gain knowledge in the following ways -

1. Research methodology.

2. Statistical analysis.

3. Ethical principles of experimentation develop a scientific attitude, study their topic of interest in-depth, acquire creative and critical thinking skills, gain new information and publish their research work.

PG student includes the following courses -

1. MD

2. MS

3. MDS

4. DM

5. MCh

6. MSc

7. MPH

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) is a medical school located in Pondicherry. It is an Institute of National Importance (INI) and a tertiary care referral hospital. It is under the direct administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Indian Government, with autonomy to run its internal administration. The courses included are UG, PG, Super Specialty, Fellowship, PhD Program, Post Basic Diploma, and Certificate Courses.
