Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has extended the submission date of the proposal for Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) Interventional Studies for November 2023.
The last date for submission of proposals to IEC – Interventional Studies has also been extended till 20th December 2023. The meeting was supposed to be held on 24.11.2023, but now it will be held on 1.12.2023.
Faculty, PhD scholars, PG and UG Students are invited to submit research proposals approved by JSAC/PGRMC/SCTRC/GJ-STRAUS for approval by the Institutional Ethics Committee – Interventional studies in the prescribed proforma available on the website. They must upload a soft copy of their signed declaration form, consent forms and scientific proposal.
After JIPMER became an “Institution of National Importance,” there was a great increase in biomedical research, and the number of research projects carried out. This involves a number of ethical issues which need to be addressed. To facilitate the smooth functioning of the ethics committees, the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) has been divided into three – IEC for Interventional Studies, IEC for Observational Studies, and IEC for College of Nursing. The Institutional Ethics Committees of JIPMER are vital in guiding researchers in the ethical issues associated with their research.
The major responsibility of IECs is to protect the rights, safety, and well-being of the research participants. The IECs conduct regular meetings to review the research proposals and give suggestions to the investigators to make their research ethical before approving them. All research projects in humans should get the approval of any one of the IECs before starting their study.
The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research is a medical school located in Pondicherry. It is under the direct administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Indian Government, with autonomy to run its internal administration.
