JIPMER Invites Online Applications For Submission Of Proposal For IECOS

Puducherry: Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) has invited online applications to submit proposals to the Institutional Ethics Committee Observational Studies (IECOS) for March 2023.

The last date for submission of proposals to reach the office of the undersigned for consideration of approval by the Institutional Ethics Committee for March 2023 is on or before 20-02-2023. Proposals submitted before the last date will be discussed in the IEC Observational committee meeting scheduled for 02-03-2023. The applicants need to use the link https://iecmanager.org/institution/283 to fill out the online version of the JIEC application form and relevant annexures.

Faculty, PhD scholar, and PG and UG, Students, can submit research proposals approved by JSAC/PGRMC/SCTRC/GJ-STRAUS for approval by Institutional Ethics Committee – Observational studies in the prescribed proforma available on the website.

The applicants must also upload the soft copy of their signed declaration form, consent forms and scientific proposal to https://iecmanager.org/institution/283.


One original hard copy of the following documents is required to be submitted to Member-Secretary, Institute Ethics Committee (IEC) at the Institute Ethics Committee office, Room no. 106, First floor, Administrative block, JIPMER –

1. Covering letter Download of the online IEC application

2. Signed Declaration form

3. Consent forms / Waiver of consent forms

4. Research proposal JSAC (ver. July 2020) / UGRMC/PGRMC

5. JSAC/ UGRMC/PGRMC certificate

6. Data collection proformas

7. Curriculum vitae of PI & Co-Investigator (s) / guide & co-guide

The procedure and guidelines to upload proposals on the e-EC portal are available on the JIPMER website https://jipmer.edu.in/research/research-committees/institute-ethicscommittee/proformas. 

The candidates should note that they enter the complete title of the project, department of work and investigator’s name on the first page of the application.

The following are the instructions issued for filling out consent forms –

1. Informed Consent Document should comprise Patient Information Sheet and the consent forms in English and Tamil.

2. Purpose of the study and procedures - The investigator must provide information to the subjects in simple language (avoid medical jargon). The applicants must avoid copying & pasting from other study protocols. Use simple Tamil words so that participants can understand.

3. It should address the subjects in a dialogue format. (eg. You will be asked some questions regarding this. Your data will be extracted from records; You will be asked to…).

4. A separate consent form for the patient/test group and control (drug/procedure or placebo) should be provided as applicable.

5. In case of telephonic contact, please add a telephonic script to the PIS format.

Studies involving children –

1. If participants are children, the participation information sheet should address the parents/LAR of the children and should be worded accordingly.

2. Children < 7 years – include parent/LAR consent form

3. Children 7-12 years – in addition to the parent/LAR consent form, record verbal assent in the LAR form

4. Children 12-18 years of age – include written assent form

5. Assent form should provide information about the study in a simple language understandable to a child from 12-18 years.

6. Language should be more straightforward for children in the age group 7-12 years compared to children in the age group 12-18 years.
