MBBS aspirant forges documents to secure admission at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, suspended

Chamba: A fraud case has been reported from Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba where a first year MBBS student allegedly used forged documents with fraudulently increased NEET scores to secure admission into the college. 

The college authorities discovered the fraud when they began uploading documents of the admitted 120 first-year MBBS students on the National Medical Council’s portal, the final step required in the admission procedure.

A college official told the Times of India, "While all the certificates got uploaded, this one didn’t because only the original documents do. On checking, we found this certificate edited and forged. When summoned, the student admitted to forgery after a brief questioning." 

The college Principal Pankaj Gupta said, "The college authorities had uploaded details of 119 students successfully, but the details of one girl student could not be uploaded."

He further added, "During the investigation, it was found that the accused had secured only 240 marks in NEET, but she tempered with the document to show 530 marks. On the basis of that forged document, Atal Medical Research University (AMRU), Mandi, allotted an MBBS seat to her at Chamba medical college. The forgery could not be detected even by a screening committee of the college that checked her documents later on." 

Speaking to Tribune India, he said, "We informed the police after the matter came to our notice yesterday. The police are now investigating the case and we have suspended the admission of that girl student with immediate effect." 

According to AMRU Registrar Amar Negi, the NEET roll number and score of the candidate was checked by the university during counselling, on the basis of which the university allotted her a seat at Chamba medical college.

This is the second case of medical admission fraud which is being reported from the state as a first-year MBBS student of the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) in Shimla was arrested for forging documents to get admitted into the college. In that incident, the accused used the NEET roll number, rank and marks of a girl candidate, who had scored 560 numbers in entrance exam, on his rank letter for counselling and then secured admission under the EWS category. The college authorities got to know about the fraud while uploading the details of all first-year students on the portal of the National Medical Council.
