The following vacant seats were carried forward from the year 2023: Anaesthesiology – 01; Immuno-Haematology & Blood Transfusion-01; Mircrobiology-01; Pathology – 01; Pharmacology-1; Physiology – 01; Pulmonary Medicine-1; Radiation Oncology-1; General Surgery-1; Ophthalmology-1. The number and distribution of seats are subject to change depending upon the periodic directives from Competent Authorities.

JIPMER does not follow a department-wise reservation system.

A candidate applying for admission as a sponsored/deputed candidate is required to fulfill the following conditions duly certified by his/her sponsoring/deputing Authority / Employer for admission to the course in the discipline allotted. The candidate is required to submit the scanned copy of sponsorship certificate as mentioned in the Prospectus Part- A.

The sponsored certificate should contain the following declaration by the sponsoring authority –

1. That the candidate concerned is a permanent or regular employee of the deputing / sponsoring authority and should have been working for at least the last three years (on or before 31st December 2023 for the January 2024 session).

2. After getting training at JIPMER, Puducherry, the candidate will be suitably employed by the deputing/sponsoring authority to work for at least five years in the speciality in which the candidate at JIPMER receives training.

3. No financial implications, in the form of emoluments/stipend, etc., will devolve upon JIPMER, Puducherry, during the entire period of his/her course, and such payment shall be the responsibility of the sponsoring authority.

Deputation/Sponsorship of candidates holding tenure appointments (like house job, Junior or Senior Residency, ad-hoc or contract, or honorary appointment against a leave vacancy) shall NOT be accepted. Deputation/Sponsorship of any candidate by private hospitals, institutes, or nursing homes is not accepted. The sponsoring Institute should not nominate more than one candidate for each of the specialties specified in the distribution of seats in the discipline.

Sponsorship / Deputation of candidates will be accepted only from the following –

1. Central or State Government Departments/Institutions

2. Autonomous Bodies of the Central or State Governments

3. Public sector colleges affiliated to universities and recognized by the NMC. For candidates deputed/ sponsored by the Medical College affiliated with universities and recognized by the Medical Council of India, a deputation/sponsorship certificate signed by the Principal of the Medical College concerned ONLY shall be accepted.



Selection of Sponsored Candidates –

Sponsored/Deputed candidates are also required to appear in the common entrance examination. Separate merit lists will be drawn for each of the specified disciplines for sponsored candidates. If selected for admission to any course of the JIPMER, these candidates are required to make their own arrangements for stay during the period of their course.

The sponsored candidates selected for admission will be granted only one month time to produce Sponsorship/Relieving/Study leave/NOC certificates from the date of announcement of the results of the respective counselling. No further extension will be allowed under any circumstances.

Foreign National Candidates –

Foreign National candidates are required to route their application through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi. All Foreign Nationals should register their MBBS Degree in the Medical Council of their respective countries and will have to get prior permission from the National Medical Commission/Medical Council of India before applying for postgraduate courses in the Institute. An advance copy must be submitted as per the INI-CET notification.

However, applications of such candidates will be processed after receipt of the same through diplomatic channels. These candidates are also required to appear in the entrance examination along with other candidates. Preference will be given to the candidates from SAARC countries (Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal & Sri Lanka). Selection of candidates will be made on merit based on their performance in the entrance examination. Separate merit lists will be drawn for each of the specified disciplines for foreign national candidates. If selected, the candidates should apply for temporary registration with the National Medical Commission/Medical Council of India for the duration of postgraduate study.

Requirements for Admission of Foreign Nationals –

1. Foreign Nationals are required to fill in the prescribed online application form for ONLY ONE discipline of their choice for admission to Postgraduate courses leading to the award of an MD/MS degree.

2. Foreign Nationals are required to send their Registration Slip of online application through the Diplomatic Channel. They are also required to appear in the INI-CET Entrance Examination along with other candidates. An “Advance Copy” is to be submitted to INI-CET. However, the application of all such candidates will be processed only after receipt of the same through the Diplomatic Channel.

3. The Foreign Nationals will be considered against the seats advertised under the "Foreign National" category only for MD/MS courses. They should be registered with NMC/MCI before they will be allowed to join the said course if they are selected for the same through the entrance examination.

4. Nominations/No objection for the candidate should reach to as per the INI-CET notification. In case of non-receipt of the nominations/clearance/no objection from the concerned Ministry by the due date, their candidature will not be considered.

5. Stipends/emoluments will be paid as per JIPMER rules and regulations.

Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) -

Overseas Citizens of INDIA (OCI) registered under section 7A of the Citizenship Act, 1955 are eligible to apply. All terms and conditions given in this Prospectus will be applicable to OCI Registered Candidates.

The candidate should upload his/her OCI card at the time of filling the online application and the same should be submitted at the time of counseling.

The OCI candidates will be considered only for the seats mentioned in the Prospectus Part-A (as applicable).

Eligibility to apply -

Nationality - 

MD/MS/MDS/6-Year MCh Courses -

Applicant must be an Indian National (IN) or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) or Foreign Nationals (FN) under the permitted categories.

Educational Qualification: MD/MS/ 6-Year MCh Courses -

The candidates must possess an MBBS degree from a University recognized by the National Medical Commission/Medical Council of India for admission to MD/MS/6-year MCh courses.

MDS Courses -

The candidates must possess a BDS degree from a University recognized by the Dental Council of India for admission to MDS courses.

Internship -

A candidate must have completed the required period of 12 months’ compulsory rotatory internship/Practical training on or before 31st January 2024. No condonation of Compulsory Rotating Internship shall be accepted.

Minimum Qualifying Marks -

1. For Unreserved (UR), Institute (INST), Economic Weaker Section (EWS), and OBC Category: 55% marks in aggregate

2. For candidates belonging to the SC/ST Categories: 50% marks in aggregate.

3. For PwBD candidates: the minimum aggregate as provided in (i) and (ii) for the category to which the candidate belongs shall apply.

4. For Indian Nationals who graduated from foreign Universities, marks obtained in the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE) shall be considered in lieu of aggregate marks. The eligibility criteria of minimum marks shall remain as mentioned above in points (i), (ii), and (iii)as applicable.

Candidates who have already completed MD/MS/MDS/6-Year MCh course in any subject in any Institution are NOT eligible for admission to MD/MS/MDS/6-Year MCh course at JIPMER.

Counseling Overview –

The list of candidates who qualify for the counseling will be available on the website at the time of the declaration of results.

Counseling (including final counseling) will be done according to the category rank (UR/ INST / OBC / SC / ST / EWSs / PwBD) that is as per the Dynamic Roster Point allocation method (Annexure I). For the January 2024 session, the counseling will start from Roster point 52 (OBC-14).

The reservation Roster Allocation method will not be applicable to MDS course seats, integrated 6-year MCh courses seats, seats reserved for the Sponsored category, and seats reserved for the Foreign National category and these seats will be allotted only based on merit.

Process of Allotment of Seats through Dynamic Roster Point Allocation system: Other than the use of Dynamic Roster Point for allocation, there is no speciality/course-wise reservation applicable in JIPMER, and all the seats at JIPMER are available for all the candidates subject to their rank and availability of the seats at any Roster point where the candidate gets the chance to opt for the seat.

Admission process -

At the time of admission: Biometric fingerprint/iris scan and image verifications of the candidate will be done on the day of joining. If there is any mismatch, the candidate will NOT be permitted to attend the counseling apart from proceeding with legal action deemed fit by the Institution.

The candidate should submit the following certificates in original along with one set of self-attested copies -

1. Hall Ticket.

2. Rank letter.

3. Certificate showing the date of birth (Birth Certificate/SSLC mark List).

4. MBBS Mark Statement for MD/MS/6-year MCh courses and BDS Mark Statement for MDS courses.

5. Internship Completion Certificate.

6. Conduct Certificate obtained from the Institute last attended.

7. Transfer (OR) Migration Certificate obtained from the Institute last studied

8. MBBS Degree or Provisional Pass certificate for MD/MS/6-year MCh courses course and BDS Degree or Provisional Pass certificate.

9. MBBS/BDS Permanent/Provisional Medical/Dental Registration certificate.

10. Residence certificate issued by Revenue Authority not below the rank of Tehsildar or AADHAR card or Voter ID or Passport copy.

11. COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate.

12. In the case of Other Backward Classes/ Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes, a Community Certificate was recently obtained from the competent authority – a Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar.

13. Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates should produce the required certificate as per the format in Annexure –II.

14. Schedule Caste/Schedule Tribe (SC/ST) candidates should produce the required certificate as per the format in Annexure –III.

15. Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs) candidates should produce the required Income and asset Certificate as per the format in Annexure –IV.

The Original Certificates will be retained in the Academic Section and returned only after the candidate completes the course or if relieved in mid-way. In addition to other requirements, a candidate’s Biometric fingerprint or iris scan, photo, and Certificates should be in order to be eligible for admission. If the certificates are in any other language other than English, English Translation attested by a Gazette Officer should be produced.

It is mandatory for all candidates to be physically present in person for admission. No request for an authorized representative on behalf of the candidate will be entertained. If a candidate fails to come for admission in person, he/she will be marked as absent, and the admission will be canceled.

The allotted seat will be canceled in the following circumstances –

1. Candidates who have been allotted seats under the Non-Creamy Layer OBC Category and whose sub-caste is NOT listed in the current Central OBC List and whose Certificate is NOT submitted in the prescribed format (Annexure – II) from the Competent Authority (OR)

2. Candidates who have applied under SC/ST Categories WITHOUT valid Certificate as in the prescribed format (Annexure – III) from the Competent Authority (OR)

3. The candidates who have applied under the EWSs category WITHOUT valid certificate as in the prescribed format (Annexure-IV) (OR)

4. Non-submission of OCI Registration Certificate issued by the Competent Authority.

Eligibility for the first and the subsequent counseling (s) will be as per the INI-CET notifications -

1. Candidates opting for a particular discipline and getting admitted to JIPMER after the First counseling are eligible to be registered for the subsequent counseling as per the instructions given by INI-CET, AIIMS, New Delhi.

2. After getting admission in JIPMER either in the first or second round of counseling, if a candidate participates and is allotted a seat in any INI (including JIPMER) in the open round/on-the-spot counseling, he/she must pay mid-stream departure penalty.

Issue of admission order –

The candidates who have opted for a seat and were selected through the counseling shall undergo a medical examination and biometric (Fingerprint/signature / facial) verification. After due verification of the documents, clearance of biometric parameters, and medical fitness certified by a competent authority nominated by the Institute, the admission letter will be issued. The academic session will commence from 01st January 2024.

Selected candidates must join the course after the medical examination on or before the stipulated date given in the letter of selection. The admission will be treated as cancelled if a candidate fails to pay the specified fee by the date intimated by the competent authority of JIPMER or fails to join the course, fails to report for duty to the concerned Head of the Department, and has not worked in the Department. Such seats shall then be filled through subsequent counseling by following the dynamic reservation roster system.

If a Junior Resident remains continuously absent or unauthorized for more than 30 days after joining, the admission will be canceled, and a necessary penalty will be levied. Admission to the course will be provisional, subject to the recognition of the qualifying examination of individual candidates by JIPMER.
