Delhi: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS Delhi) has invited online applications for Entrance Examination through online (CBT) mode for admission in PhD Program January 2023 session.

Detailed schedule –

1. Last date for Registration of Online application - 13.03.2023 (5:00 pm)

2. Status of application & Rejected application with the reason for rejection. Applicants are required to check on 20.03.2023 through the Registration Status Tab of their My Page after Login - 20.03.2023

3. Last date for submission of required documents for Regularization of Rejected Applications. No Correspondence will be entertained after this date under any circumstances, and candidates are requested NOT TO CONTACT the Examination Section - 24.03.2023

4. Last date for Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India to forward an approval regarding "No Objection" to the Foreign National for appearing in the PhD Entrance Examination for JAN 2023 session - 24.03.2023

5. Finalization of Centres and allotment of Roll Nos./Admit Card on the website - 28.03.2023

Application fee (Through Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking) -

1. General/OBC Category: Rs.2000/- +Transaction Charges as applicable

2. SC/ST/EWS Category: Rs.1600/- +Transaction Charges as applicable

3. PWBD Candidates are exempted from any Fee

Eligibility for PhD course (Open candidates) –

1. Medical qualification: MBBS/BDS with minimum 55% aggregate marks or MD/MS/MDS/DM/M.Ch. In the subject concerned or Diplomat of the National Board of Examination. Candidates who have obtained these degrees from medical colleges that the Medical Council of India does not recognize shall not be eligible to apply.

2. Nursing Qualification: Candidates holding an MSc degree with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in Nursing Speciality will also be eligible for PhD admission to the College of Nursing.

3. Non-Medical – For non-medical candidates, eligibility shall be a Master's Degree (two-year course) awarded by Indian Universities or equivalent in the subject as per the project's requirement.

4. Candidates holding M.Sc. (Other than MSc Nursing) M Tech Degree, BAMS & BHMS will be eligible for the Non-Medical Qualification Category. Candidates having eligibility under the non-medical category should have at least 60% marks in the last eligibility examination qualified. Candidates possessing a Master's Degree through a distance learning course are not eligible.

The details of seats (departments, code, no. of seats, research projects, etc.) are enclosed in the notice below. All seats in a department will be clubbed. Candidates will only be eligible for seats in the department they have applied for. They will be allocated seats in order of their merit in the exam.

Candidates with their Own Government Fellowship (OF) can select from both OF and Fellowship Available (FA) seats (where they fulfill the eligibility criteria for the seat). Candidates without their Own Government Fellowship can select only Fellowship Available (FA) seats (where they fulfill the eligibility criteria for the seat).

Successful candidates will be subjected to the eligibility criteria of the respective project before admission. Candidates who are allotted seats but do not join or resign after joining will not be eligible for additional seat allocation rounds.

Duration of the course –

1. The course's duration shall be from registration to thesis submission. The minimum registration period in respect of all the candidates who are registered for PhD shall be three years. The maximum period of registration shall not exceed five years. Extension beyond five years can be given for a maximum period of 6 months on the recommendation of the Dean Committee and final approval by the Dean/Director.

2. Further extension beyond 5 years & 6 months can only be given by the Academic Committee for a maximum period of 6 months in highly exceptional circumstances (like medical exigencies, natural calamities, etc.), and such extension may not be given retrospectively.

5. Failure to submit the thesis within the maximum 5yrs. Extension after approval of up to 5½ years (6 years in exceptional circumstances by prior approval of the Academic Committee) shall lead to the cancellation of the PhD registration of the candidate.

Examination detail –

The exam will be conducted on Computer Based Test (CBT) online for 90 minutes with 1 shift only. The exam center will only be in Delhi/NCR from 10:00 am – 11:30 am. The mode of language will be English. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with Stages I & II (30+40=70) will exist for every correct answer, 1, and an incorrect answer, minus 1/3.

The method of selection –

Selection for PhD registration will be through a three-stage performance evaluation as under –

STAGES I and II –

Stage-I: 30 Marks (30 MCQs of 1 Mark each) Aptitude-related MCQs covering English(Written and verbal skills), Biostatistics, Research Methodology, Cell Biology, Lab Technology, etc.

Stage II: 40 Marks (40 MCQs of 1 Mark each) subject-related theory based on multiple-choice questions (MCQs) of MD/MS/MDS/M.Sc. Entrance level.

Eligibility for Stage III - Candidates must score at least 35 marks in Stages I and II (Combined) to be eligible for Stage III. Candidates who do not fulfill the criteria to qualify for stage III will not be eligible for selection.

SPECIAL WEIGHTAGE:

Medical / Dental/ Nursing candidates - 10 marks will be added to the total score of Stages I and II for candidates who fulfill both the following criteria: they are eligible for stage III, they also hold a Medical Degree (MBBS/ BDS/ MDS/ DNB/ MD/ MS/ DM/ MCh) or MSc (Nursing) or equivalent.

Non-Medical candidates - 10 marks will be added to the total score of Stages I and II for candidates who fulfill both the following criteria: They are eligible for stage III; they also have qualified in any one of the following National Entrance Tests leading to the award of a fellowship tenable at AIIMS, New Delhi in the last 2 years (January 2021 to last date of application, i.e., 13.03.2023).

STAGE III: After combining the marks of Stages I, II and special weightage (detailed in points 1 and 2 above), three (03) times as many candidates as the number of seats advertised in a department will be called for departmental clinical/practical/lab based assessment (carrying 20 marks). These marks will be added to the marks of stages I + II + special weightage to determine the final total marks.

FINAL RESULT: Candidates who secure 50% marks in Stage-I, II (including special weightage)& III Combined (50/100) shall be eligible for admission and be included in the final merit list. If a candidate is awarded special weightage marks based on submitted documents that are subsequently found to be ineligible, the special weightage marks awarded will be withdrawn, and the final result will be recalculated.
