AIIMS Jodhpur Invites Online Applications For PhD Admission January 2024 Session
Jodhpur: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS Jodhpur) has invited online applications for PhD admission January 2024 session.
The candidates willing to apply for the above course can register till 08.01.2024.
Application Fee (Through Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking) -
1. General/OBC Category: Rs.1500/- + Transaction Charges as applicable
2. SC/ST/EWS Category: Rs.1200/- + Transaction Charges as applicable
3. PWBD Candidates are exempted from any Fee
Candidates must keep their transaction ID along with proof for future reference and may be asked to submit it later.
Candidates applying under the OBC/EWS category must possess a valid OBC/EWS certificate issued by the competent authority for admission in Central Govt. Institution. The certificate will be considered valid if it has been issued within one year prior to the last date of Online Registration of application (i.e. 08.01.2024). EWS/OBC certificate should have been issued between 7th Jan 2023 to 08th Jan 2024.
Candidates are advised to read the prospectus carefully before starting online registration and ensure that no column is left blank. In the event of rejection of the application form, no correspondence/request for reconsideration will be entertained. They are also advised to download and take a print of the registration form. They should retain a copy of the registration form till the completion of the admission process.

Eligibility –
General Eligibility: A Candidate seeking admission to the course for study leading to the award of a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy must possess at least one of the following qualifications –
Medical Qualification –
MBBS/MDS/Master of Physiotherapy with minimum 55% aggregate marks or MD/MS in the subject concerned or Diplomat of National Board of Examination. Candidates who have obtained MBBS/MD/MS /MDS/Master of Physiotherapy degrees from Medical Colleges not recognized by the Medical Council of India are not eligible to apply.
Non-Medical/Life Sciences/Social Behavioural Sciences –
The candidates with the following qualifications will be eligible -
The candidates who have passed MSc/MA/Masters in Engineering or its equivalent/ examination with at least 60 % marks in the subjects mentioned below from the colleges/institutes recognized by the UGC are eligible.
Non-Medical/Life Sciences –
A degree of Master of Sciences (M.Sc) or Master in Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) or M.Sc. (Laboratory Technology) or M.Sc (Speech & Hearing) in subjects allied to Medical Sciences such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Human Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Immunology, Life Sciences including Botany, Zoology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Organic Chemistry, Anthropology & M.Sc (Human Genomics), ME/M.Tech.
Social Behavioral Sciences -
The candidates with the following subjects are eligible for Social Behavioural Sciences, Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Nursing, Nutrition, and Child Development. MA/M.Sc/M.Phil in Health Promotion/Education, Health Management, Epidemiology, Environmental Health/Environmental Sciences and Public Health, Nutrition/Applied Nutrition/Food and nutrition, Health Economics/Applied Economics/Economics, Public Health/Community Health and MPH, Post-graduation in Law i.e. LLM and its equivalent qualification.
Candidates working under the Central Govt. /Semi Govt. /Autonomous organization should submit their application through proper channels, i.e., through the employer. A ‘No Objection Certificate’ is mandatory from their employer at the time of Stage II of the selection process for PhD programme.
Requirement for admission of foreign nationals –
1. Foreign nationals are required to send their application through a Diplomatic channel. They must also appear in the Competitive Entrance Examination along with other candidates.
2. They are required to apply in the prescribed form indicating the choice of the subject (only one subject) for admission to postgraduate courses leading to the award of PhD degree.
3. No seat is reserved in any discipline for foreign nationals (except for the bilateral agreement between the Government of India and any other nation).
4. No Institute Fellowship will be provided to sponsored/Foreign candidates.
Duration of the course –
The course's duration will be the period from registration to submission of the thesis, i.e. minimum of three years. However, the maximum period of registration shall not exceed five years.
Method of selection –
Selection for PhD registration is through a 2-stage process –
STAGE I: will consist of a written examination of 1.5 hours Duration which will be conducted in 2 parts
Part 1- Written examination of 50 marks (50 MCQs) of 1-hour duration on Research Methodology, Biostatistics and Basic Sciences. Each correct answer will be awarded 1 mark. Each wrong answer will be awarded a one-third negative mark (-1/3). More than one answer will be treated as a wrong answer and awarded a negative mark. Zero marks will be given for questions not attempted.
Part 2 There will be a paper consisting of a Statement of Purpose (SOP) for judging the research aptitude for 30 30-minute duration. (Part 2 will not be considered for marking).
STAGE II: The candidates who secure 50th Percentile or more in stage I will be eligible for stage II (Interview). However, the number of candidates called for stage II shall not exceed three times the number of seats advertised under each guide. Selection will be based on Performance in the Interview. The interview board will be constituted under the chairmanship of the Dean (Academics).
Declaration of Results –
Results for the PhD program will only be available on the website of AIIMS Jodhpur. Results of individual candidates will not be informed individually and candidates are advised not to call the Dean Academics Section for such information.
The result will not be intimated to the candidate individually. The result of stage I will be displayed on the Notice Board of AIIMS, Jodhpur.
The candidate must either have a fellowship from NET/ICMR/GATE/Other allied agencies/ Centre of Excellence at AIIMS Jodhpur or the Guide. The Student must submit an Undertaking ensuring Funding, failing which course for the Student will be discontinued.
The GATE-qualified candidates must ensure their eligibility and that AICTE has no objection to providing fellowship to such candidates for Pursuing PhD from AIIMS, Jodhpur.
Rules for admission for in-service candidates of AIIMS Jodhpur -
1. Members of the medical faculty who have served in the institute continuously for at least 2 years can apply for registration to PhD course as in-service candidates in AllMS Jodhpur.
2. The in-service candidates should have at least 2 research publications during the preceding 2 years in pub med indexed/indexed Journals.
3. Each case may be examined by a specially constituted ad hoc committee of three members under the chairmanship of the Dean before the candidate is permitted to be registered for the PhD. The said committee will also decide whether the candidate, other than the Medical faculty member, belongs to the scientific cadre. The recommendation of the committee will be final.
4. Out of a total of 5 faculty members in a particular department, one, can be registered as a PhD candidate, and not more than 2 candidates, at a given time, should be registered as a PhD candidate in a particular department where there are more than 5 faculty members.
5. The candidate admitted under this category will be considered as an in-service candidate provided the Head of the Department certifies that the work of the department will not suffer & no additional staff will be asked for.
6. These guidelines will not be applicable to other staff members employed under various research schemes which are on a tenure basis.
7. The medical faculty member who has registered himself/herself as a PhD candidate will not be eligible to be the guide/co-guide of any other PhD candidate in the concerned department till he/she completes the PhD. However, he/she will continue to be a guide/co-guide for MD/MS/MDS/DM/M.Ch candidates. The topic and part of it should not be used in the PG thesis.
Reputed Public Health Organizations can apply for a PhD programme at AIIMS Jodhpur. The parent organization needs to have a MoU with AIIMS Jodhpur for this purpose with the condition that the organization does not have its own PhD Programme. In such cases, the Guide would be from AIIMS Jodhpur and the Co-Guide could be from the organization of the applicant. The applicant needs to appear in the orientation sessions and other contact sessions mandatorily at AIIMS Jodhpur. Data collection would be allowed at their own Institution, under the supervision of a Co-Guide. There would be no extra financial implication for AIIMS Jodhpur. The project needs to be approved by the IEC of AIIMS Jodhpur.
Fees –
PhD fee of ₹20,000/- shall be levied on the candidate pursuing PhD at AIIMS, Jodhpur. The fee shall be valid for a period of 3 years. In case the candidate is unable to complete his/her PhD work in three years, the same amount shall have to be deposited for another period of 3 years.
