MBBS admission racket busted: 4 held for duping aspirants for six months, probe on

Bengaluru: Busting an illegal medical admission racket, the High Grounds police, part of the central division have arrested four persons for allegedly medical aspirants by promising to secure a MBBS seat at various prestigious medical colleges on Friday.

While investigating the case, the police found that the accused were running a consultancy firm on Cunningham Road for six months where they manipulated and extracted money from the aspirants by promising to secure them a seat at a prestigious medical college. 

At present, four individuals have been apprehended, whereas the main suspect and others who are suspected to be involved with the scam remains at large.

After arresting the accused, the police have sealed their office and seized five PCs, one laptop, 10 mobile phones, and 10 chequebooks, along with details of NEET candidates and froze their bank accounts. 

Digging deep into the admission scam, the police discovered that the accused obtained information pertaining to candidates who were unsuccessful in the NEET examination from the official website. Subsequently, the defendant would selectively approach these candidates and coerce them into making payments in exchange for securing a seat at a medical college.

For this, they hired around 10-12 people for tele-calling to contact the victims. If the victims showed any positive response, the accused arranged a meeting to discuss the price and process. They would even open them bank accounts with fake documents and after the victims made payments the suspects provided them with bank cheques as a guarantee. However, the cheques bounced.

"They would convince the victims that they could secure them a medical seat and even made them open bank accounts using fake documents," a senior police officer told DH.

"All key individuals have been apprehended, while some others remain at large. Efforts are underway to apprehend them," added the officer.

The case came to light after a complaint was filed from a Mysuru-based businessman to whom the accused promised a medical seat for his daughter and took ₹10.8 lakh.
