“For the 85% state quota seats will be conducted by the state counselling authorities for government colleges, and 1st phase of counselling, 15% will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of seats from state-run colleges across India, central institutions and deemed university. The rules for the counselling are being made, and in a few days, it will be sent to all states”,Tamil Nadu Minister of Health and Family Welfare Ma Subramanian stated in his media interaction with TOI.

Candidates who qualify for the NEET are only eligible for counselling. These candidates must be citizens of India at 17 years of age as of 31.12.2023. They will have passed 10+2 with a recognized board.

It is usually carried out in 4 rounds (round 1, round 2, mop-up, and spot round). Spot round is conducted only if seats remain vacant after the first 3 rounds. Each round of counselling is a separate round, and the rules of each round are different. Once any round commences, the rules of that round will apply to all the candidates even if they are allotted/admitted in the previous rounds of counselling. Two spates counselling process is held, one for government quota and one for management quota.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) has been conducted by NTA since 2019 for admission to undergraduate medical education, with the approval of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and MHRD. This test is conducted once a year across India and abroad.
