PhD at AIIMS Rishikesh: Check out schedule, fee structure, all admission details

Rishikesh: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS Rishikesh) has closed the application window for the PhD Course for the July 2022 session. Now, the candidates who have applied for PhD Course can check the status of their application on 1st July 2022 on the website.

The last date for submission of required documents for regularization of rejected applications is 7th July 2022. No correspondence will be entertained after this date, and candidates are requested not to contact the examination section.

On 13th July admit card will be issued. The eligible candidates can download the admit card from the AIIMS Rishikesh website. Admit Cards will not be sent by post. The written test will be conducted on 23rd July 2022, and the result for the same is expected to be announced on 25th July 2022. The entrance exam (MCQs) will be a computer-based/hard copy test. The duration will be 3 hours, and the exam will be held at AIIMS Rishikesh from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

All internal and external candidates (medical, non-medical, in-house, in-service, transfer-in etc.) will have to appear in two stages of the entrance exam -

1. Stage 1: Written entrance Exam.

2. Stage 2: Departmental assessment and interaction with IRRB.

Candidates who fail to attend any of the stages of examinations mentioned above will not be eligible for admission. The combined result of Stage-I & stage-II will be available on the website of the Examination Section, AIIMS and the website of AIIMS Rishikesh. No individual intimation will be communicated to the candidate. Departmental assessment will happen on 26th July 2022 and 27th July 2022.

The final result will be declared on 28th July 2022. The final result of qualified candidates will be prepared based on number of vacancies available and availability of approved Guides and Co-guides. After getting approval from the Competent Authority. The candidates need to join by 31st July 2022. The selected candidates will have to submit the original certificates at the time of joining.

The total number of PhD Seats is 14 (7 seats for extramural projects and 7 seats for internal candidates).

Candidates applying for PhD seats in extramural projects should have qualified in any one of the following entrance tests in the last two years: Joint CSIR-UGC NET for the NBHM screening test, graduate aptitude test (GATE), ICMR, DBT, and INSPIRE fellowship. Internal candidates may apply under any Department after ensuring the availability of a guide from the respective department in the institute.

Candidates will be eligible only for seats in the department that they have applied for and will be allocated seats in order of their merit in the exam. Successful candidates will be screened for the eligibility criteria of their respective Projects before admission. And those who are allotted a seat but do not join or resign after joining will not be eligible for any additional rounds of seat allocation.

Admission to PhD Course will be subject to the availability of research funds/fellowship/grants from recognized funding agencies. After the declaration of results, selection letters will be issued by the Academic Section only to those candidates who have submitted Undertaking/Proof of their funding sources through the concerned Head of the Departments. The PhD program's selection will also be subject to medical fitness. The candidates selected for admission shall have to pay the fee/dues within the prescribed period, failing to cancel their admission.

Candidates are required to make their own arrangements for stay at their own expenses during the period of their PhD Course. They are also required to identify sources of funding support for their research work, as the institute will not support PhD scholars (External) for their stay/salary/ research funding support.

As per AIIMS, candidates enrolled for PhD Course will have to sign a bond for completion of course. Leaving course in mid-way will involve recovery of salary/fellowship and a fine up to Rs 200000 based on decision of DRC. However, the candidate can request Director AIIMS Rishikesto review DRC's decision.

The candidates will work under supervision of a recognized PhD guide of AIIMS Rishikesh. They have an option to choose the guide. Allocation of guide will be done by IRRB, from the department in which the candidate has applied for PhD within a department preference will be given to a faculty with an extramural project funding.

The number of PhD candidates in a department will be equally distributed among the eligible faculty. The guide and scholar will select co-guides based on subject expertise required for a PhD thesis. At least one co-guide from the concerned department should be included. Only a full-time regular teacher/Director of AIIMS Rishikesh can act as a supervisor. External Guides are not allowed.

Eligibility criteria for PhD guide –

1. Research Guide should have at least four years teaching/research experience after acquiring PG qualification in the respective field.

2. Any regular Professor / Director with at least five research publications in peer reviewed journals and any regular Additional/Associate/Assistant Professor with at least two research publications in peer reviewed journals may be recognized as Research Guide.

AIIMS has further notified that private practice during the course is prohibited. The period of training is strictly full-time and continuous.
