18 MP medical colleges served NMC notice over ABDM HMIS lapses

Bhopal: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued notices to 18 medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh for failing to properly implement the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) compliant Health Management Information System (HMIS).

The colleges have been asked to correct the deficiencies within 15 days, failing which they could face action, including the risk of losing their recognition.

According to the NMC's review, several medical colleges have not been uploading patient data to the ABDM network despite having the required infrastructure.

Among the institutions where digital services such as Scan & Share, Health Record Link, and other key ABDM features are either not functioning or not being used properly are Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre, ESIC Medical College, Indore, Government Medical College, Sheopur, Government Medical College, Chhindwara, Government Medical College, Khandwa, Mansarovar Medical College, Bhopal, Shyam Shah Medical College, Rewa, Sri Aurobindo Medical College, Indore, Sukh Sagar Medical College, Jabalpur, and Virendra Kumar Sakhlecha Government Medical College, Neemuch.

The NMC noted that these institutions have installed Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) software, but essential digital health services remain non-functional.

The review also found that Government Medical College, Seoni, Government Medical College, Shahdol, LN Medical College, Bhopal, Ramakrishna College Hospital and Research Centre, Bhopal, RKDF Medical College, Bhopal, and RD Gardi Medical College, Ujjain have not installed the required HMIS software.

In addition, Mahavir Institute of Medical Science and Research, Bhopal, and Gwalior Mental Hospital were found to have incorrect Health Facility Registry (HFR) IDs, resulting in patient data not being transmitted to the correct digital platform.

"The objective of this mission is to provide better and more transparent healthcare to patients. Colleges that have not yet met ABDM standards will be required to address all deficiencies within 15 days. If compliance is not achieved within the stipulated time, action will be taken against the respective colleges as per the regulations. This may include withholding recognition and denying new seats," said Dr Raghav Langer, NMC Secretary, as quoted by Naidunia. 

Medical Dialogues had reported earlier that NMC, in an office memorandum on July 17, 2026, directed all medical colleges and institutions under its jurisdiction to immediately implement the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM)-compliant Health Management Information System (HMIS) in their attached or associated hospitals.
