Bihar gets NMC nod for 740 additional MBBS seats this year
Patna: Giving a major boost to medical education in Bihar, the National Medical Commission (NMC) recently approved a total of 740 additional MBBS seats across government and private medical colleges in the state.
This has raised the total number of seats in the state from 3,420 to 4,160.
This increase is expected to expand opportunities for students in Bihar aspiring to pursue medical studies, while also making the state a more attractive destination for candidates from across India.
With the approval of the NMC, a total of 190 new MBBS seats have been added across 12 government medical colleges in Bihar, raising their total capacity from 1,520 to 1,710.
Among these, the number of seats has been increased from 200 to 250 at Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), from 150 to 200 at Nalanda Medical College Hospital (NMCH), from 120 to 150 at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), from 120 to 150 at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Bhagalpur, and from 120 to 150 at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), Muzaffarpur.
Meanwhile, the number of seats remains unchanged in other government institutions, including IGIMS Patna, ANMMCH Gaya, GMCH Bettiah, GMCH Purnia, JKTMCH Madhepura, ESIC Medical College Bihta, and RDJM Medical College.
On the other hand, 14 private medical colleges across the state have seen the highest increase in the number of seats, gaining 550 additional seats. The total number of seats in these colleges has increased from 1,900 to 2,450.
Key changes include an increase in the number of seats: from 150 to 250 at Netaji Subhas Medical College, Bihta; from 50 to 150 at Virat Ramayan Institute of Medical Sciences; from 150 to 200 at Mata Gujri Medical College, Kishanganj; from 150 to 200 at Lord Buddha Koshi Medical College, Saharsa; and from 100 to 150 at Mahabodhi Medical College.
Two new private medical colleges have also been approved to admit students from the current academic session, which include 'Buddha Hospital and Research Institute' with 100 seats and 'Srinivasa Ji Educational and Research Institute of Medical Sciences' with 100 seats.
Therefore, with the recent approval, Bihar will now admit students to a total of 4,160 MBBS seats across 26 medical colleges.
