National Dental Commission slaps Rs 1 crore penalty on Andhra's Lenora Institute of Dental Sciences
Andhra Pradesh- The National Dental Commission (NDC) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹1 crore on Lenora Institute of Dental Sciences, Rajanagaram, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, for allegedly furnishing incorrect and incomplete information and misrepresenting material facts before the inspection team during the regulatory assessment process.
Through an order issued in this regard, the NDC stated that the Dental Assessment and Rating Board (DARB) had sought from the institution a valid Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)/agreement and an exact road distance certificate in relation to the attached medical college.
The college subsequently submitted the required documents and also responded to a show-cause notice issued on June 10, 2026.
However, the Commission noted that records from the periodic inspection conducted on June 21-22, 2024 showed that the distance between the attached medical college and the dental college was recorded as 10 km during the inspection.
In contrast, the distance certificate submitted later by the institution indicated the distance to be 13.485 km, raising concerns over the accuracy of the information placed before the inspection team.
According to the NDC, the institution failed to present the correct factual position during the inspection and furnished incomplete or incorrect information regarding material facts.
The Commission held that this amounted to concealment of material facts and misrepresentation before the inspection team and the erstwhile Dental Council of India (DCI)/National Dental Commission.
Invoking its powers under Section 25(1)(f) of the National Dental Commission Act, 2023, the Dental Assessment and Rating Board imposed a penalty of ₹1,00,00,000 on the institute.
The Commission has directed the institution to deposit the penalty amount within 15 days from the date of issuance of the order and submit proof of payment to the Dental Assessment and Rating Board within the stipulated period. It also warned that failure to comply with the order would invite further action under the provisions of the National Dental Commission Act, 2023.
The order was issued with the approval of the competent authority. Copies of the order have also been forwarded to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Dr NTR University of Health Sciences (Dr NTRUHS), and other concerned authorities for information and necessary action.
"In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 25(1)(f) of the National Dental Commission Act, 2023, the Dental Assessment and Rating Board hereby imposes a monetary penalty of Rs.1,00,00,000/- (Rupees One Crore only) upon Lenora Institute of Dental Sciences, Rajanagaram, Rajahmundry, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, for furnishing incorrect and incomplete information, concealing material facts, and thereby misrepresenting the factual position before the inspection team and erstwhile DCI/NDC.
