Hyderabad: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently approved 100 MBBS seats each at 3 more government medical colleges at Jangaon, Vikarabad, and Bhupalpally in Telangana.

With this, NMC has accorded permission to 6 government medical colleges to start MBBS classes from the academic year 2023-24.

Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao in a tweet Wednesday night, further said the approval process for Nirmal, Karimnagar and Sircilla Medical Colleges has reached the final stage.

"Delighted to share that, out of 9 medical colleges to be started this year, 6 medical colleges already have got permission, i.e., Jangaon, Asifabad, Kamareddy, Khammam, Vikarabad, Bhupalpally. The approval process of Nirmal, Karimnagar and Sircilla Medical Colleges reached the final stage," he said in a tweet.

The minister further said the Telangana government is briskly moving forward in setting up one medical college per district towards Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's vision of "ArogyaTelangana."

With these nine new colleges, the total number of colleges will increase to 26 in the State and the number of MBBS seats will increase to 3,690. Telangana has 7,090 MBBS seats and 2,548 PG seats as compared to the 2014-15 of 2,950 and 1,183 respectively.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the National Medical Commission (NMC) gave its nod to two more new medical colleges in Kamareddy and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts of Telangana with 100 MBBS seats in each college for the academic year 2023-24. The approved medical colleges in the state would further strengthen medical education and healthcare facilities in rural areas.

Another 100 MBBS seats were added to the seat matrix of Telangana as the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given the green signal for Government Medical College in Khammam for the academic year 2023-2024.

The apex medical education regulatory body NMC had given its nod for these seats from the academic year 2023-2024. This comes after NMC gave its permission for two medical colleges in Kamareddy and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts.

Now, GMCs in Jangaon, Vikarabad, and Bhupalpally have got the NMC nod for 100 MBBS seats each.
