Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet to propose new medical college in Namsai, 100 MBBS seats to be added
Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet has decided to move the Central Government with a proposal to set up a Medical College and hospital at Namsai under the Aspirational District Programme.
The medical college will have 100 MBBS seats and 420 beds.
This project is planned under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and aims to bridge the gap in healthcare services and medical education in the region. The total project cost is `375 crore.
In its first meeting of 2025, the Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, took a slew of key decisions, marking a significant step towards strengthening infrastructure, governance and citizen service delivery across the state.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that The Centre was considering the Arunachal Pradesh government's proposal for one more medical college in the state, Union minister Bharati Pravin Pawar has stated last year. Inaugurating a Seva Aapke Dwar (SAD) camp at Rottung in Kebang circle of Siang district, Pawar, the MoS for Health, had said that she will take up the matter but the state government must ensure the required facilities.
At present, the state has only one medical college -- Tomo Riba Institute Of Health And Medical Sciences. TRIHMS is the first medical college of the state which was established in 2017 and is located in Naharlagun in Papum Pare district of Arunachal Pradesh. The institute started its first academic session on 1 August 2018 with a total intake of 50 MBBS seats. Additionally, the college also has a 500-bed state-of-the-art hospital equipped with the latest medical technology to cater to the healthcare needs of the region's population.
