DME Signals Capacity Boost: Karnataka GMCs Can Add 1,513 MBBS, PG Medical Seats
Karnataka- Following the implementation plan for enhancing medical education in Karnataka, recently, the state government informed that there is a potential to add 1,513 undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) medical seats in government medical colleges across Karnataka.
The Union government recently sought information about the plan to expand medical education in all the states. It said, "To implement the vision of expanding UG-PG medical seats, it is necessary to assess the existing medical facilities in terms of infrastructure and other resources... Creation of seats using the existing infrastructure will help in achieving the target in a timely and cost-effective manner."
Responding to the Union government, the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) said that the UG seats in government medical colleges in Karnataka are 3,500 (MBBS), which can be increased to 900. At the same time, the availability of PG seats in government medical colleges is 1,600, and the number likely to increase is 613, reports The Hindu.
