Olatpur Doctor Dies in Suspected Fall from Balcony

Gujarat: In a tragic incident, a 26-year-old first-year MS Orthopedics student was found hanging in his hostel room on the Dr MK Shah Medical College campus in Chandkheda on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 9:38 AM. The deceased was identified as a resident of Jamnagar, Gujarat. He was living in the boys' hostel in the SMS Hospital compound.

According to police, he was found hanging from a ceiling hook with a red nylon rope tied around his neck.

The incident came to light when his roommate returned to their hostel room in the morning and opened the door to find the medico hanging. He alerted fellow doctors, who rushed to the room, cut the rope, and took him to the emergency ward.

After finding him hanging in his room, Dr KM Patni of SMS Hospital alerted the police control room about the suspected suicide. Officers from the Chandkheda police station arrived at the scene and conducted an inquest. The medico was immediately taken to the emergency ward, where doctors attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). However, he was declared dead at 10:05 AM.

The body has been sent for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. However, no suicide note was found in the room or the deceased's belongings.

Speaking to TOI, a senior police officer said, "Initial inquiries from family members and relatives indicate that he was under stress since arriving here about a week ago. However, the exact reason behind this extreme step is not yet known."

Meanwhile, investigators have begun analysing his mobile phone and are questioning classmates and faculty members to determine whether study pressure or personal problems may have played a role.

A case of accidental death has been registered under Section 194 of the Indian Civil Safety Code (BNSS), 2023. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances of the incident.
