2nd-year MBBS student found dead in Durgapur's medical college hostel

West Bengal: In a tragic incident, the body of a second-year MBBS student was found in the hostel of a private medical college in Durgapur, West Bengal.
The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old resident of Patna, who was pursuing an MBBS degree at the institute.
According to PTI report, the student's body was found on Saturday night. After the matter came into the light, the Police were informed, and the body was kept in the hospital morgue. In the initial investigations, it is suspected that the death was a suicide. However, the exact cause will only be determined after a postmortem examination.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the death may have been a suicide,” the officer informed PTI
Meanwhile, investigators have spoken to classmates and hostel residents as part of the investigation. Police are also looking into reports that the student had failed a subject in recent semester exams and was under mental stress, reports PTI
After the incident, the family of the deceased has been informed, and they have reached Durgapur
Last year, Medical Dialogues had reported that a third-year medical student at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Maharashtra's Gondia district reportedly attempted suicide after allegedly being reprimanded by the head of his department over conduct and attendance issues. The student reportedly tried to hang himself from a ceiling fan at his rented accommodation. He was rescued in time by friends, who broke open the door after being alerted by a distressing WhatsApp post he had shared shortly before the attempt.
