Berhampur: Taking cognizance of the scarcity of workforce at MKCG Medical College and Hospital, the government has employed 35 Post Graduate medicos to the facility.

The PG medicos will be serving in different clinical and non-clinical departments of the medical college till June 30, 2023.

An office order directing the deployment of PG medicos were issued recently this week. Total of 416 posts of doctors were sanctioned in different categories. However, 113 seats are still lying vacant. The vacant posts included professor (four) and associate professors (30).
As per a recent media report by Times of India, twenty-six doctors are pursuing postgraduate studies at the medical college, and five and three doctors have finished postgraduate studies at Vimsar, Burla, and SCB Medical College, Cuttack, respectively and now has been employed here. One of the doctors works at the Rayagada district headquarters hospital. The doctors belonging from the discipline of general surgery, orthopaedics, anaesthesia and radiology will be extending their sercices for the menegement of the trauma care facility.
"Healthcare facilities will improve in the medical college and hospital with the posting of resident doctors," said Abani Kant Mishra, principal, MKCG Medical College. He further added that the government would hire more doctors to fill the vacancies.
MKCG Medical College has 14 clinical departments, 5 para clinical and 3 non clinical departments. The facility is responsible for rendering tertiary health care to the people of the whole south-western Odisha region. Hence, sufficient number of doctors and medical staff are required for the smooth functioning of the facility.
A few days ago MKCG Medical College made headlines after a senior resident was booked after a second-year medico complained that one of his seniors ragged him on campus. The incident irked the second-year medicos of the institution who then approached the Dean seeking action against the senior. The initial investigation has revealed that the second-year students including the medico were trying to organize an informal cultural event on the campus. However, he was ragged by a senior resident doctor.
