Etawah: In a spine-chilling incident, a 20-year-old first-year nursing student of Saifai Medical College was reportedly subjected to a heinous murder where she was stabbed in the neck by three individuals with a sharp edge weapon inside a vehicle. Following a thorough investigation, the authorities recently apprehended 3 accused in connection.

According to the police, the student was allegedly murdered by her jilted lover as her blood-soaked body was found dumped on the roadside 15 km from the medical college on Thursday night. It has been alleged that the accused killed the student due to his inability to form a romantic relationship with her.

Claiming that he committed the crime out of unrequited love, the police said that the three people involved in the heinous murder were the jilted lover who is her neighbour, his brother and one of his relatives.

The deceased in this case has been identified as a first-year student who was pursuing an Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM) course at the medical college. She hailed from a village in Auraiya district.

According to the SP, the jilted lover who was already married, was infatuated with the student and wanted to marry her. As a result, he was after the student for the last four years and harassed her as stated by her family members. He allegedly lured her out of her college premises on Thursday and killed her after an argument broke out between them, Verma said.

The matter came to light when one of the victim's friends alerted the warden of her absence from the class. According to a ETV Bharat news report, the student had attended the OPD for duty at around 8 AM and returned from there at 1 O'clock. However, she failed to appear for classes at 2 pm.

According to police, it appears that the woman was killed and her body was dumped near Etawah-Saifai road on Thursday evening. The woman had an injury mark on her neck, the SP said, adding that the body was sent for post-mortem, PTI reports.

"As per the doctors who conducted the post-mortem examination, there was no injury to the vital parts of the victim. The victim was stabbed in the neck by a sharp-edged weapon,” Additional Superintendent of Police (Etawah) Satya Pal Singh.

“We have found CCTV footage showing the woman willingly getting into the car with a man on Thursday afternoon. Something happened between the two and the man killed her,” Singh added.

Although the motive of the primary suspect behind her murder is evident, the involvement of the other two accused in the homicide remains unknown. The police are also yet to investigate what had happened between the duo before she was murdered.

As per the Indian Express, Senior Superintendent of Police (Etawah) Sanjay Kumar Verma said “The car which was used to take the victim has also been recovered along with the murder weapon. We will take the strictest action against the accused under the National Security Act."

Demanding justice for the deceased student and swift action against the accused, Saifai Medical College students staged a protest on the campus. In a video posted by the Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav, the agitating students were seen protesting outside the trauma centre raising slogans against the district administration.

Police have lodged an FIR under the Indian Penal Code section 302 (murder) against the accused based on the complaint filed by the victim's mother, the official said.

During the investigation, the main accused told police that he had hidden the pistol at some distance from the place where the body of the student was found, police said. When he was taken to the spot in police custody, he took out a pistol from the hidden place and fired at the police in an attempt to flee. However, in the retaliatory firing by the police, he got injured by a bullet in his leg, they said. The accused was admitted to a district hospital, they said.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in the state over the incident.

"The death of a Saifai University student under suspicious circumstances is a very serious matter. This is another very sad example of the declared zero-tolerance policy against crime becoming a zero during the BJP's time in Uttar Pradesh," he said in a post in Hindi on social media platform X.

Yadav also shared a video on X of the protesting students and demanded a judicial inquiry into the woman's death.
