GMC Amritsar Suspends 12 MBBS medicos over brawl at Campus
Amritsar: Taking strict action against 12 MBBS medicos who were found to be undisciplined and allegedly involved in a brawl, a Committee including the principal of Government Medical College, Amritsar has recently suspended them.
Six of those students were pursuing their internship after completing their MBBS course, whereas the remaining six are still pursuing their education. The MBBS students have been suspended for a period of 15 days, whereas the six interns have been banned for a period of 30 days.
Belonging to two separate groups, these students allegedly got involved in a verbal spat a couple of days ago. The situation worsened and they even indulged in a brawl which resulted in an injury of a student. Following this, a committee was formed to investigate the matter and now the committee has decided to suspend all 12 students.
It should be noted in this context that the issue of the inter-group rivalry was earlier pressed by the Principal of the Institute, Rajiv Devgan when an anonymous email raised the red alerts for ragging.
Medical Dialogues had recently reported that a mystery email sent to the National anti-ragging helpline had claimed that the MBBS students were being ragged and asked to remove their clothes by the seniors. However, even after securing the CCTV footage, nothing suspicious was found and then the Principal had shared his views that this might be just an inter-group rivalry.

As per the latest media report by Amar Ujala, around ten days ago all the intern doctors were sitting at the new hostel block of the college. When the MBBS students came to the spot, the interns expressed unwillingness upon meeting them.
Arguments began and the situation worsened when the MBBS students went back to their hostels and came back with their friends. As a result of the brawl, a student got injured in the head as well.
Following this, the college management initiated an inquiry into the matter and asked the investigating committee to submit the report within ten days. The committee listened to both sides and also called on other people for their statements. Finally, in the report, the committee found all the students guilty.
Based on the Committee's recommendation, all the students have been suspended by the college authorities on Tuesday. Vice Principal cum Executive Principal of the college Prof. JS Kular has banned them from entering the college premises while issuing the order of their suspension.
While commenting on the matter, Dr. JS Kular, Vice-Principal, GMC told The Tribune, "no indiscipline would be tolerated," adding that he would send a stern message as well.
