Srinagar: Taking note of the sudden rise in the COVID-19 cases across the state and the country the Government Medical College, Srinagar has canceled the winter vacation of all the faculty members.

Issuing a notice regarding the matter, the J&K Based GMC Srinagar has directed all its faculty members, who are currently on leave to join their duties immediately on January 11, 2022.

The Officer Order dated 10.01.2022, issued by the Principal of the institute Prof. (Dr.) Samia Rashid, mentioned, "In view of sudden upsurge of COVID-19/OMICRON Cases, the Winter Vacation-2022 of Faculty Members stands canceled and all the Faculty members of this Institution on vacation shall resume their duties on 11th January 2022 (Tuesday), without fail."

Set up in 1959, the Government Medical College and Hospital at Srinagar is the oldest medical college in Kashmir.

Regarding the academic activities in the institute, the medical college authorities have suspended offline classes on Tuesday.

Issuing an order regarding the matter, the Principal mentioned, "Pursuant to Government Order No: 03-JK(DMRRR) of 2022 dated: issued under endorsement No: DMRRR/PS/Secy/551/2020 dated: 09/01/2022, all the Theory Classes in respect of MBBS and B.Sc. Paramedical Courses are hereby suspended with immediate effect," adds Kashmir Life.

The notice has further clarified that the online teaching and clinical postings shall continue as usual.

'However, online teaching and Clinical Postings shall continue as per the roster issued by the respective Departments," mentioned the order.

PTI adds that as of Sunday, Jammu and Kashmir recorded 687 fresh COVID-19 cases. Of the fresh cases, 437 were from the Jammu division and 250 from the Kashmir division, the officials said.
