Puducherry: A total of 6 MBBS supernumerary seats have been withdrawn under a separate NRI/OCI category from the academic year 2022-23, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has made the announcement through a written notification published on the website.

The 5 seats have been withdrawn from the Puducherry campus, and 1 seat has been withdrawn from the Karaikal campus. JIPMER has stated that the decision was made at the 16th meeting of the Standing Academic Committee and approved at the 15th meeting of the Governing Body and the 11th meeting of the Institute Body.

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research is a medical school located in Pondicherry. It is an institute of national importance (INI) and a tertiary care referral hospital. It is under the direct administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Indian Government, with autonomy to run its internal administration. The courses include undergraduate, postgraduate, super specialty, fellowships, PhD programs, post-basic diplomas, and certified courses.



JIPMER originated in the year 1823 as the Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry, established by the French Government. It was renamed Dhanvantari Medical College in 1956 at the time of the de facto transfer of Pondicherry to the Government of India. It was established on its current campus in 1964 and is spread over 1922 acres.

Recently Medical Dialogues team reported that JIPMER had released details related to the admission procedure for MD/MS/ MDS/ MCh courses in INI-CET July 2022 Session 2nd counselling candidates. The reporting process for the selected candidates is scheduled on 29th August 2022, 30th August 2022, and 1st September 2022 at Exam Hall - 3, 4th Floor, JIPMER Academic Centre (JAC). Candidates should report before 10 am. The candidates must exercise the option before 4 pm on 31st August 2022.
