Kerala- In a tragic incident, a third-year MBBS student allegedly committed suicide in her hostel room. The medical student was found hanging from the fan in her hostel room.

The deceased has been identified as Ambili, 25, a native of Kasargod in Kerala, who was pursuing an MBBS degree from a government medical college in Kalamassery.

At around 11 pm on Saturday night, the deceased's hostel mates went out, and when they reached the hostel, they found her hanging. Seeing this, the other students immediately informed the college administration and the police.

A preliminary investigation has been conducted into the matter. The investigation suggested that it could be a case of suicide, although the reason behind this step is not yet clear. At the same time, the police have registered an FIR under Section 194 (unnatural death) of the Indian Justice Protection Code (BNSS), and the investigation process is underway.

Police sources informed that Ambili was suffering from mental stress and learning disabilities, although these factors have not been confirmed. Police said that the body has been sent for post-mortem at the moment.

"Her parents visited her at the college on Saturday and the reason behind her alleged extreme step is yet unknown... The student had some mental health problems and a learning impediment, although these claims have not been confirmed..," Police sources informed PTI.

Meanwhile, the medical college authorities informed IndiaTV news that the student was suffering from severe mental issues and was undergoing treatment. A source from the college said, “She was suffering with some psychiatric problems, and had previously attempted suicide twice, but narrowly escaped. From what we observed, she appeared deeply depressed, especially due to her inability to achieve the academic performance she expected.”
