NMC renewal approved for 2nd batch of MBBS admissions at Gian Sagar Medical College
Patiala: The National Medical Commission (NMC), the apex medical education regulatory body has recently renewed the certification of Gian Sagar Medical College for the second batch of MBBS admissions in around 150 seats.
According to recent media reports, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), operative under NMC has approved the application submitted by the institute for its renewal. The medical college was reopened a couple of years back and started admitting its first batch of MBBS students back in 2020.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the Medical Council of India (MCI), now taken over by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and Dental Council of India (DCI) withdrew the recognition of dental and medical college of the Gian Sagar Educational and Charitable Trust. The medical institutes were shut down in February 2017 after the trust management failed to come up with any concrete revival plan for the institute facing a financial crisis.
While commenting on the matter, Dr. AS Sekhon, Dean of the Patiala-based Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital told the Times of India that the first batch of 150 students was admitted to the MBBS in 2020 after MCI (Medical Council of India) nod for admissions.
Now, the NMC and MARB have renewed and approved the certification of the college enabling it to continue admitting students to the MBBS curriculum, adds TOI.
