Ramagundam Medical College renamed as Singareni Institute of Medical Sciences

Hyderabad: In a major development, the Telangana government has decided to rename the Ramagundam Medical College to Singareni Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) on Thursday. 

The confirmation regarding this comes in line with a Government Order (GO) issued by the secretary of the Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department, SAM Rizvi on July 6th. 

The proposal to change the existing name of the medical college was submitted by the Director of Medical Education. Later, the government approved the request considering several factors.

"Government after careful examination of the matter, hereby approves the change of nomenclature of the new Government Medical College, Ramagundam, Peddapalli district to Singareni Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Ramagundam, Peddapalli district," reads the order. 

Along with changing the name of Ramagundam Medical College in the Peddapally district to Singareni Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), the government has decided to provide reservations in MBBS seats to the children of Singareni employees. 

Taking it to Twitter, Health Minister T Harish Rao said, "CM KCR took the decision to rename Ramagundam Government Medical College to Singareni Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) after considering the appeals received from Singareni employees, The government has issued orders to this effect. 

"In addition to these, 50 beds in this medical college hospital have been allotted to Singareni employees. Children of Singareni employees should take advantage of the opportunity," he added.

Out of the total 150 MBBS seats in Ramagundam Government Medical College, 5% of the 127 seats under the state quota (after deducting 23 seats from All India Quota) rounded up to seven seats shall be reserved for children of Singareni employees. 

Admission to these reserved seats for Singareni employees’ children will be based on the merit achieved in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). Additionally, the existing reservation categories for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Backward Classes (BC) will be taken into consideration during the admission process for these seats, the order stated.
