Tanda Medical College organises competition to create awareness on ill effects of tobacco

Kangra: Poster-making and memes competition was organized on ill effects of tobacco and smoking in Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda on Tuesday. The competition was organized by the Center for Advancing Tobacco Control (Catch) and Community Medicine Department, Tanda under the theme "Tobacco-Free Tanda and Tobacco Threat Environment".

More than 30 students participated in this poster-making competition, organized to create awareness on ill effects of tobacco among the students of the institute. The Center for Advancing Tobacco Control is doing excellent work in the direction of making Himachal Pradesh a smoke and tobacco-free state, directly and indirectly with regard to COTPA provisions and FCTC provisions of the World Health Organization.

Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda has been declared as the first tobacco-free medical college of the state, only by the tireless efforts of Center for Advancing Tobacco Control (Catch) and the Community Medicine Department. Principal Bhanu Awasthi said, "Tobacco is a major obstacle in our mental and physical development. The government, citizens, and people of the private sector will have to make a united effort against this, so that this evil can be eradicated completely.

Every student should make a determination to fight against tobacco." Harsh Vardhan said the purpose of this competition organized by Catch was to create awareness among the people about the harmful effects of tobacco on health and to keep a distance from tobacco. Mainly students of MBBS and GNM Nursing participated in the competition.

Certificates and gifts were given to the best contestants in the competition. Sunil Kumar Raina, Director, Catch and Head of the Department of Community Medicine, said that tobacco causes many diseases at the global level. Currently, corona infection has become a cause of concern among people and in such a situation, many people are wanting to quit tobacco.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, we should cooperate with them through counseling and treatment. On the other hand, some people are doing the work of spreading the infection by consuming tobacco, pan masala etc. by spitting here and there, which is a dangerous and punishable offense for human life. In the competition, Principal of Medical College Bhanu Awasthi, Dr Sunil Kumar Raina, Head of Department Community Medicine, Associate Professor Dr Raman Assistant Professor Dr Harsh Vardhan were the judges. In the poster-making competition, first prize was won by Taruchaya, a student of MBBS and Tanupriya got second prize, while Vandana Kumari, student of GNM Nursing got first prize and Aakriti got second prize, in the same competition. In memes competition, Nandini Guleria got first prize and Satyabhatt got second prize.
