Hyderabad: With three medical colleges already being approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) with 100 MBBS seats, the Telangana government is planning to accelerate the completion of remaining six medical colleges across the state soon. 

Health Minister Harish Rao informed that the state government is on track to achieve its goal of establishing six more medical colleges. Earlier, Rao directed officials to speed up the work process on nine upcoming medical colleges in the State out of which three have already got the permission to start functioning from this year. 

While speaking at the monthly review meeting conducted over video conference, Rao told DC “This year, nine more medical colleges will commence classes with 100 MBBS seats each. With the recent approvals granted to Kamareddy, Khammam, and Komaram Bheem Asifabad medical colleges, the remaining are in the line."

With these nine new colleges, the total number of colleges will increase to 26 in the State and the number of MBBS seats will increase to 3,690. Telangana has 7,090 MBBS seats and 2,548 PG seats as compared to the 2014-15 of 2,950 and 1,183 respectively. 

Apart from these three medical colleges, another six medical colleges are likely to come up in the State at Rajanna Sircilla, Vikarabad, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Jangaon and Nirmal.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its nod to two more new medical colleges in Kamareddy and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts of Telangana with 100 MBBS seats in each college for the academic year 2023-24. The approved medical colleges in the state would further strengthen medical education and healthcare facilities in rural areas.

Another 100 MBBS seats have been added to the seat matrix of Telangana as the National Medical Commission (NMC) has given the green signal for Government Medical College in Khammam for the academic year 2023-2024.

The apex medical education regulatory body NMC has given its nod for these seats from the academic year 2023-2024. This comes after NMC gave its permission for two medical colleges in Kamareddy and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts.
