Pulmonary embolism is a condition in which one or more arteries in the lungs become blocked by a blood clot. Most times, a pulmonary embolism is caused by blood clots that travel from the legs, or rarely, other parts of the body. It would have been possible to save her if she had received immediate treatment.

She was a native of a small village in Rajasthan's Jodhpur district and died just a day before completing her final MBBS examination.

After her parents were informed of the incident, they arrived at the lone Lengpui Airport on Thursday from Rajasthan and reached Aizawl.

Her body has been taken for autopsy which will determine the cause of her death.

"Unless the autopsy is conducted, we cannot determine the cause of her death. She, however, appears to have suffered a pulmonary embolism/severe heart attack (cardiac arrest)," said Saia Chenkual, a faculty member of the ZMC.

“It was yet to be decided whether her remains would be cremated in Mizoram or would be transported to her village by flight,” he said, adding that a farewell ceremony/funeral would be undertaken by the faculty and students of the ZMC at the premises of the medical college.
