Maharashtra- Through a notice, the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has published the “Rules for Conduct and Governing of MUHS Special Internship for Nursing Instil Competency Enrichment Program” on the official website of the university.

Accordingly, all concerned willing to undertake the “MUHS Special Internship for Nursing Instil Competency Enrichment Program” (MUHS SI-NICE) activity are advised to take note of the following details

As per the notice issued in this regard, the MUHS SI-NICE program is envisioned by the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, MUHS Lt Gen Madhuri Kanitkar (Retd) PVSM, AVSM, VSM. Undergraduate Nursing students finish with the final year exam in MUHS-affiliated colleges/ recognized Institutes and recent nursing graduates shall be allotted to work in the clinical settings of the selected Training Centres recognised by MUHS in various disciplines of health Sciences across the Jurisdictions of MUHS i.e. State of Maharashtra.

MUHS SI- NICE Program is a unique platform to provides significant exposure to undergraduate nursing students with an inspired environment to gain the required competencies and benefits for skill enrichment through this Program. Students can have meaningful experience and broad exposure at affiliated Training Centres (Including affiliated Medical colleges) to establish Professional relations in the esteemed organization and vice versa. The MUHS SI-NICE Program shall be of 6 weeks to 12 Weeks Duration.

Meanwhile, faculty members and Mentors working in selected Training Centres recognised by MUHS shall serve as mentors (preceptors). MUHS shall validate and assign a mentor(s) based on the application received. Moreover, each Allotted candidate shall be awarded a weekly stipend of 2500/ week (maximum up to Four weeks) or as may be decided by the University from time to time.

OBJECTIVES

i Learn to apply nursing theories.

ii Gain evidence-based nursing knowledge.

iii Learn problem-solving skills and therapeutic techniques to perform the advanced practice nursing role safely, legally, ethically and effectively.

iv Be involved in assisting patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

v Learn to participate as a supporting member of a medical team aid.

vi Learn Professional, Legal and Ethical Nursing Practice.

vii Learn Health Promotion and Health Education Competence area.

viii Learn Management and Leadership Competence areas.

ix Learn Evidence-based Practice and Research Competence.

x Gain Personal and Professional Development.

xi Upon satisfactory completion of each clinical block, the learner will be evaluated based on the core competencies and may request a performance-based letter of recommendation.

xii Become a MUHS SI-NICE Club member, an online platform where each member and mentor shall share views, write blogs and explore recent advancements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a MUHS SI-NICE Program scholar, the candidate has to undertake the following duties and responsibilities-

i Participate in the development of nursing care delivery systems in collaboration with the client and multidisciplinary health care teams to achieve optimal outcomes at selected Training Centres recognised by MUHS.

ii Have to focus on the high quality and effectiveness of delivered care and maintain the social value and status of the nursing profession.

iii Bring more focus on skills to instil and foster a nurturing, caring and positive culture in nursing.

iv Focus on professional nursing practice and expert knowledge in relation to nursing and health care management to help in professional development.

v Proactively adopt and explore the concept of advanced nursing practice;

vi Have a performance evaluation completed at the end of the rotation.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

i Aspirant student has to apply online and submit requisite fees and submit the application as may be defined and notified by MUHS.

ii Once the scheme is open interviews shall be facilitated by MUHS as per the timeslot defined and notified. Mentors to select the candidates as per Vacancy.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

i Undergraduate nursing students finished with their final year exam in MUHS-affiliated colleges/ recognized Institutes and recent nursing graduates are eligible to apply online and shall need to provide a brief CV and Statement of Purpose.

ii MUHS students shall have priority in the allotment. However, non-MUHS / external Students may be considered, if the vacancy permits (in the event of non-availability of MUHS students) then such vacant seats may be allotted to non-MUHS / external Students. (a copy of their PG health science course transcript is required).

iii All MUHS SI- NICE candidate can join a program in their own discipline or unless specifically permitted by the eligibility criteria of the program.

REQUIREMENT FOR MUHS ACE PROGRAM

i The aspirant candidate shall meet the prerequisites eligibility criteria as prescribed and notified by MUHS for each speciality.

ii Candidate knows the basic competencies required for the Nursing speciality.

iii Candidate is ready to locate and travel to the area of MUHS SI-NICE Training Centres allotted by MUHS.

ENROLMENT OF CENTER

i Online expression of intent (EOI) shall be invited by MUHS and Vice Chancellor MUHS shall have power to grant the permission to any of the existing Fellowship Centre affiliated with MUHS to undertake this MUHS SI-NICE Program.

ii The area of speciality and the intake capacity shall be decided as per the availability of infrastructure and mentors at the respective centres.

ALLOTMENT OF CANDIDATES TO CENTRE

i An online admission process shall be carried out by the MUHS.

ii The Candidate shall have to fill out the application form online and pay a non-refundable processing fee of Rs. 500/- or as may be prescribed by the University from time to time. Applicants who is financially incapable of paying processing fees or those who belong to the below-poverty line (BPL) family, such Candidates shall have to submit the certificate in that respect and undertaking duly certified by the concerned Dean / Principal to the University. The Vice-Chancellor shall have the power to grant the processing fee waiver to such applicants.

iii The Candidate need to give options for MUHS SI-NICE Program Center.

iv No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the college/institute, where the applicant candidate currently studying, in the format as may be prescribed and notified by the University.

v The Candidate is to submit a Statement of Purpose for any one of the opted learning specialities while submitting the online application form. It will carry marks weightage and shall be evaluated by the MUHS and the candidate shall awarded a proportionate mark(s) based on the statement of purpose.

vi Scrutiny of application(s) and evaluation of statement of purpose shall be carried out by the MUHS.

vii The merit list will be published by the MUHS.

viii Letter of allotment will be made available online to the selected candidates.

ix Selected candidate has to report at the concerned Center at their own cost and submit the joining letter through the concerned Nodal Officer nominated by MUHS at the respective Center.

x The candidate has to make his/her required self-arrangements locally. The accommodation and mess facilities shall be subject to availability and subject to payment of necessary charges by the candidate at par with the other Candidates living in the hostels.

EVALUTIONS AND CERTIFICATION

i At the successful completion of the MUHS SI-NICE program, the final evaluation shall be carried out by the Centre as per the instructions issued by the MUHS.

ii Online certificate shall be awarded to successful candidate students by the MUHS, in the template as prescribed by the MUHS authorities.

MISCELLANEOUS

i No act or omission in respect of the procedure of these rules shall be deemed to be invalid at any time merely on the ground that there is any irregularity in the said process or any minor deviation made from any procedure, not affecting the merits of the process.

ii University may, at any time, without giving prior notice, amend, relax, alter or repel any criteria and or provision of these rules or may prescribe additional rules or procedures in conformity with the above-mentioned provisions.

iii Aggrieved scholar/candidate, if any; in the matter concerned with MUHS SI- NICE Program may submit representation/complaint in writing to the Registrar, MUHS. The Registrar, MUHS shall assess the case and convey directives to the concerns. If the grievance is not settled at the level of Registrar, MUHS then, it shall be referred to the Vice-Chancellor, MUHS for taking the final decision in the matter, as he/she deems fit. The decision of the Vice-Chancellor, MUHS shall be final and binding.

iv In case of interpretation of or difficulty arising in the implementation of any of the provisions of these rules the decision of the Vice-Chancellor, MUHS shall be final and binding.

v As the candidate may be accessing confidential documents and information during their program, it is prudent that they will not disclose the same to any outsider or third person and follow the confidentiality policy of the concerned program Center in that regard.

vi In some cases, the candidate may work on projects where intellectual property rights are a concern for the program Center. In such cases, the intellectual property created by the candidate may well be vested with MUHS and the concerned program Center Jointly.

vii All the words or terms denoting any gender shall include all genders.
