MUHS revokes affiliation of Sinhgad dental college Pune over violations, bars admissions
Maharashtra: The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, MUHS Nashik, revoked the affiliation of Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital in Pune.
This decision was taken following serious violations of legal regulations and a failure to maintain prescribed academic standards.
This decision will be implemented from the academic year 2026-27. After the withdrawal of affiliation, the college will not be permitted to admit students to undergraduate and postgraduate dental courses from 2026-27 onwards.
A meeting of the University Council was held on January 23. This decision was made during the meeting. The decision was taken after it was found that the institution had violated the provisions of the MUHS Act, 1998, and had failed to operate in accordance with the academic and administrative standards set by the university.
According to the HT Media news report, MUHS officials stated that "All currently enrolled students will be permanently transferred to other affiliated private non-governmental dental colleges in Maharashtra. The student transfer process will be entirely managed by the university based on merit, preferences, and seat availability."
Consequently, the affiliation for the dental undergraduate and postgraduate programs has also been withdrawn. This action was taken after numerous complaints from teaching and non-teaching staff regarding the non-payment of salaries for an extended period.
According to staff complaints, salaries for the period from August to November 2018, although officially disbursed, were later reclaimed by management via checks, with a promise of repayment that was never fulfilled. During the period from December 2019 to May 2022, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, only basic salaries were paid, and no salaries have been paid since May 2024.
In response, the university clarified that disaffiliation would not absolve the management of its financial responsibilities. The institution has been directed to pay all outstanding salaries to its teaching and non-teaching staff and submit a compliance report. Only after full payment and verification will the college be permitted to submit a new proposal for affiliation renewal, after which a decision will be made following due diligence.
