Ministry of Health releases Allocation of Central Pool MBBS, BDS seats for 2020-21 session

The statement issued by the Health ministry indicates the number of MBBS/BDS seats along with the Medical/Dental Colleges concerned, allocated for the academic session 2020-21 from the Central Pool for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Cabinet Secretariat and the Ministry of Defence. The quota for the Ministry of Home Affairs includes the seats meant for Special Services Bureau also.

Under their quota, the Ministry of Home Affairs has 23 MBBS and 3 BDS seats, the Ministry of defence has 38 MBBS and 3 BDS seats.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has 39 MBBS and 3 BDS seats for Self Financing Foreign Students. While for Indian Missions Staff posted abroad, the MEA is having 4 MBBS seats under its central quota.

The statement further shows that 5 MBBS seats have been allocated to the Cabinet Secretariat quota along with 1 BDS seat. While for the Cabinet Secretariat SPG, one MBBS seat has been allocated.

The allotment has also been made to these states including- Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mizoram and Ladakh, Assam , Bihar, Puniab, Haryana, West Bengal, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, UT of Chandigarh and Uttarakhand.

According to the notification, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Nagaland have got 3 BDS seats each under the central pool while the Ut Ladakh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep have got 2 dental seats each. Mizoram has 5 BDS seats under its quota.

While for the MBBS pool, the Meghalaya has 50 MBBS seats, Sikkim and Lakshadweep have 4 each, Nagaland has 40 and Ladakh has 6 MBBS seats.

4 MBBS seats from the Central Pool are being earmarked for the nomination of candidates to the medical courses from the category of Civilian Terrorist victims. It has been decided that the nominations of candidates will be made by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

7 MBBS seats have been allocated to AIIMS New Delhi, 15 MBBS seats have gone to Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) of which 1 is allocated under the newly introduced quota COVID warrior.

Medical Dialogues had also reported that for the first time, a special category has been created- for 'wards of covid warriors' and the nominations of candidates will be made by the Medical Council Committee, DGHS.

5 MBBS seats have been reserved under this category with 1 each in NSCB Medical College, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Mahatma Gandhi lnstitute of Medical Scs, JLN Medical College and Govt. Medical College Haldwani.

MGIMS Sewagram has 4 MBBS seats while CMC Vellore has got 1 and VMMC, Safdarjung Hospital has 6 MBBS seats under the pool.

The notification further adds that the selected candidates may be advised to report to the concerned college for admission well in time i.e. before the closing of admission on 31" December 2020 and an intimation regarding their actual admission along with their full particulars including their marks, be sent to this Department within seven days of their admission.

The admission of candidates to various medical/dental colleges will depend on their fulfilling the eligibility criteria and other conditions of admission as laid down by the concerned State Govt. which may be ascertained from the concerned colleges.

It should be ensured that every selected candidate carries duly attested documents including his/her photographs when reporting for admission.

Intimation of whether all the seats allocated to that Ministry have been fully utilized should be conveyed to this Department on the most urgent basis. In the event of any default on this behalf, this Ministry may have no choice except to curtail the allocation, to the extent of the seat(s) lost or unutilized, in the succeeding year.
