NBE withdraws notice on Board constituted for Medical Examination of newly allotted candidates, details

New Delhi- Through a recent notice, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) informed All the NBEMS Accredited institutions/ Candidates joining NBEMS courses regarding the Constitution of Medical Board for Medical Examination of newly allotted candidates on NBEMS seats through the centralized counselling. However, the NBE today withdrew this notice.

In the notice issued today, the NBE recalled back the notification informing on the constitution of the board and said, "The NBEMS notice dated 22.11.2024 regarding constitution of a medical board for medical examination of newly joined candidates at NBEMS seats stands WITHDRAWN. The updated guidelines applicable from next cycle of admissions shall be published in due course."

In its previous notice issued on Novemeber 22, the NBE stated that admissions of all candidates to DNB/DrNB/FNB courses are subject to the medical examination which is conducted at the time of their joining respective NBEMS courses by the Medical Board of the allotted NBEMS accredited institute. A Medical Board comprising of the following minimum members shall be constituted for the medical examination of the candidates allotted with NBEMS seats through the counseling conducted by MCC/NBEMS/State Govt.  

" Members of the board shall be the faculty for NBEMS programme accredited with NBEMS. If any of the above specialty/department is not accredited in the hospital/institute, the hospital/institute may engage/nominate the member(s) from other NBEMS Accredited departments/ Government Hospitals.  Alternatively, the hospital/institute may tie up with other NBEMS accredited hospitals for medical examination of its candidates through the medical board of the other hospitals. The candidates who have been declared medically unfit by the Medical Board of the NBEMS Accredited institute will not be allowed to join the NBEMS course. Any candidate found unfit by the Medical Board of the NBEMS Accredited institute will have the option for an appeal to the Medical Board constituted by the NBEMS Accredited institute. If he / she wishes to appeal, he / she should apply to Head of the Institution (HOI) within 2 days of the Initial Medical Board (excluding holidays / Sundays) Examination. The HOI will arrange review of the medical board report of the candidate by an Independent Medical Board of a nearby Government Medical College, decision of which will be final," it said.

"There is NO provision for medical examination of any other nature after a candidate has been declared unfit by the Appellate Medical Board. Candidates finally declared unfit, will not be considered for admission. There is NO provision for declaring a candidate “Temporarily Unfit”. 8. No seat will be kept pending on account of the candidate wishing to undergo treatment (Medical / Surgical) for a disease / disability for which he/she is made unfit," the notice added.

Fitness of the candidates is decided as per the medical fitness standards and criteria so prescribed for the purpose. 

The notice has been withdrawn.
