This comes after recently the Union Health Ministry took the call for reducing the cut-off and conduct a special mop-up round for filling up around 1,000 vacant seats belonging to several branches of Super-Specialty.

The reason for such a decision by the Health Ministry was the fact that even after the completion of the mop-up counselling for NEET-SS 2021, 930 super specialty seats are still lying vacant including several seats belonging to Government institutes.

Medical Dialogues had recently raised this issue of vacant Super-specialty seats after the completion of all the rounds of NEET-SS 2021 Counselling. Due to the high cut-off marks, around 1,000 Super Specialty Seats are lying vacant. These seats are not only from branches that are least sought after but hundreds of seats belonging to coveted branches such as DM Cardiology (DMCD) and DNBSS Cardiology (DCRD) and those in the super-specializations of Neurology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology even oncology that are also lying vacant.

Blaming the high cut-off marks responsible for the wastage of hundreds of seats, the doctors had been writing to the authorities in this regard and praying for lowering of the cut-off percentile and arranging a stray vacancy round for filling up the vacant seats.

Finally the Union Health Ministry has taken cognizance of the matter and writing to the National Medical Commission (NMC) the Health Ministry has announced about its decision of reducing the cut-off and conducting a special mop-up round for filling up the vacant seats.
Therefore, the Health Ministry has directed the Apex Medical Regulator NMC to examine the matter at the earliest and provide comments on the issue.
After the nod from NMC, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) informed the same to NBEMS. Writing to the Executive Director of NBE, Prof. Dr. Minu Bajpai, MCC mentioned in the letter, "This is in reference to meeting held in MoHFW under the chairmanship of Hon. Minister HFM and attended by AS (ME), ADG (ME), Chairman, NMC and other respectable members. It has been decided to reduce the cut off percentile by 15% for an additional round of Mop-Up Round Counselling to fill up the vacant seats of Super Speciality."
"Hence, it requested to you to provide the new result at the office of the undersigned at the earliest after reduction of percentile. The letter of National Medical Commission regarding the reduction is attached with this letter for your ready reference," further mentioned the letter by Dir (Prof. (Dr.) B. Srinivas), ADG (ME) & Member Secretary of MCC.

Following this, NBEMS finalised the matter and announced about its decision of reducing the cut-off by 15th percentile. It also published the revised cut-off scores for 32 specialities.

"For any query, please contact NBEMS at 011-45593000 or write to NBEMS at its Communication Web Portal https://exam.natboard.edu.in/communication.php?page=main," mentioned the NBE notice.
