New Medical College to come up in Punjab with 100 percent State Funding

Apart from this, the CM will soon lay the foundation stones for the medical colleges at Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur as well.

Confirmation regarding this came from the Chief Minister's Office as the CMO Twitter handle shared the news and wrote, "CM @CharanjitChanni gave go ahead to the recruitment of approximately 3400 various posts in the Health Department. CM to lay the foundation Stones of Medical colleges at Kapurthala & Hoshiarpur soon, also announces to setup a new Medical College in Sangrur with 100% State funding."

Apart from this, the CM on Monday has also given his nod for filling up 10,880 vacant posts in various cadres in the Education Department, adds PTI.

Among those present in the meeting included Punjab Deputy Chief Minister O P Soni, Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Medical Education Minister Raj Kumar Verka and Education Minister Pargat Singh.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that back in June, the Medical Education and Research Minister of Punjab, OP Soni had announced that four new Government medical colleges would come up in Mohali, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Malerkotla at a costof Rs 1500 crore.

At that time, Soni had also informed that Punjab had about 1400 MBBS seats in medical colleges( both private and government) and it would witness an augmentation of 500 more with the opening of these 4 medical colleges.

Recently, the CM announced that he would shortly lay the foundation stones for medical colleges at Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur.

In another decision, Channi gave go-ahead for the recruitment of 3,400 posts in the health department so as to further strengthen the healthcare mechanism.

The chief minister also announced that a new medical college will be set up in Sangrur with 100 per cent state funding. These new medical colleges will help in boosting medical education and research in the state, Channi said.

The chief minister also ordered that a proposal relating to the inclusion of Anganwadi and ASHA workers and other health workers in the Ayushman Bharat scheme be brought up in the cabinet meeting.

As per the data revealed by MoS Health Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar before the Lok Sabha, Punjab has a total number of 10 medical colleges with an intake capacity of 1425 MBBS seats. Among these 650 MBBS seats are in the 4 Government medical colleges, whereas 775 MBBS seats are in 6 private medical colleges.
