NMC extends deadline, now medical colleges can apply for renewal of permission till March 17

New Delhi: Considering the requests of medical colleges who did not get time to apply for the renewal of permission for the academic year 2023-2024 due to NMC portal closing down early, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has decided to give them a chance to apply.

The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC has extended the deadline till March 17, 2023 so that such colleges can take part in the counselling process of Academic year 2023-2024.

Issuing a public notice in this regard, Dr J.L Meena, member of MARB stated, "The various request received from Medical Colleges to give the time to apply for renewal of permission who couldn't apply for renewal of permission for the Academic Year 2023-2024 due to early closure of NMC online Portal so that they can participate in the counselling of 2023-2024. The request of medical colleges have been considered by Medical Assessment and Rating Board and it has been decided to give them a chance to apply for renewal of permission so that they can participate in the counselling process of Academic Year 2023-2024."

"It is therefore, all the Government and Private medical colleges, who couldn't apply for renewal of permission are hereby requested to apply and send sworn affidavit along with requisite application fees up to 17.03.2023," the notice further added.

However, the apex medical commission has clarified that colleges who have been denied any permission due to legal issues, cancellation of batch or stoppage of admissions may not be considered for renewal of permission.

The notice also mentioned, "However, random surprise inspections may be carried out on the basis of track record of the medical College."

In order to apply for the renewal of permission, the colleges need to submit its name, annual student intake, details of PG programme (if any), name of affiliating university, stage of assessment, contact details of the college, etc.

Apart from this, the colleges also need to submit the data regarding the date of LOP, date of essentiality certificate, date of previous renewals, data regarding any time when the college was denied recognition, if the college was granted permission through court order, information about surprise assessment, if the members of the college run any other institute, if any medical college run by any of the members ever been closed after opening, date of last assessment, if the deficiencies pointed out in the last assessment have been complied with later, among others.

Further, NMC has sought to know about the facilities available at the college including the number of examination halls, number of lecture theatres, number of books, foreign journals, Indian journals, computer nodes, available in the central library, hostel capacity available for UG students, total number of beds in the hospital, number of departments, number of clinical departments having a demonstration room, clinical material including OPD attendance, bed occupancy, major operative case load, number of deliveries, number of c-sections, casualty, number of X-ray machines, blood bank license number, number of nursing and para medical stuff, college website address, details about departments (including lab capacity, demo rooms), etc.

Details about availability of faculty members in the college including the number of Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, and Tutors need also be submitted to the apex medical commission. NMC has also asked for the department wise details of every faculty member on full time rolls of the college in a format prescribed in the notice.

"Please do not include any faculty member who is is not available/is yet to be appointed/is still under consideration for appointment/has been relieved from the institution/has resigned from institution/ is on long leave for any reason/ or is unavailable for whatever reason," the commission clarified.

"The Dean/Principal/Director and also Chairman Management (in case of Private college) to verify and certify that they have verified every fact above and they are responsible for the veracity of the facts mentioned above. Please note that in case any of the above information is found to be wrong, they would be held responsible for the same and action initiated as may be deemed fit," it further added.
