No solution from authorities after NMC cancels MBBS, PG medical seats, students stage protest at KNRUHS

Hyderabad: Around hundreds of medical students belonging to three private medical institutes in Telangana are facing an uncertain future after the National Medical Commission (NMC) cancelled the admissions citing lack of necessary infrastructure.

Since these students have not been shifted to other medical colleges in the State and no solution has been offered in this regard, 50 such affected students staged a protest on Monday at the KNRUHS and demanded that Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) accommodates them in other colleges where seats are available.

While the students blamed the Vice Chancellor of the University for allegedly misleading NMC and the State Government, the Registrar of KNRUHS, Dr. D Praveen Kumar has assured that "No student will be ejected from his or her seat."

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that following a surprise inspection, the National Medical Commission (NMC) recently cancelled MBBS and PG medical admissions in three private medical colleges in the State resulting in a huge decrease in the total number of seats.

Although the NMC had informed KNRUHS that the affected students facing cancellation of admission may be reallocated to other medical colleges by the State Government, the problem is that the colleges which can take the students should also have the required infrastructure for accommodating the new strength of students. Further, the colleges should keep that in mind that even after admitting the new students, the total number of students should not cross 250 in any of the colleges.

NMC had also allowed the PG medical students to work for three months in the district hospitals against the seats available for the District Resident programme, adds TOI.

While addressing the issue of uncertain future of the affected students, the Vice Chancellor of KNRUHS, Dr. B Karunakar Reddy has informed the New Indian Express that he was waiting for State Government order regarding the colleges where such students would be relocated.
