Bihar: Govt nod to 17 new nursing institutes to begin BSc Nursing, ANM, GNM courses

Bihar- The Bihar government has taken a significant stride in healthcare education by permitting 17 nursing institutes to begin Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM), General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM), and BSc Nursing courses.

The move was announced through guidelines which was issued by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). A notification regarding the same was also issued by the Bihar Health Department on January 16.

As per the notification, there will be 1,020 seats, with each institute offering 60 seats for the aspiring candidates. The courses i.e. ANM, GNM and B.Sc Nursing courses will be offered as per the guidelines prescribed by INC and the Government of Bihar under the Nurse Training Recognition, Affiliation and Conduct of Examination of School of Nursing Rules 1997.

Talking about the course, Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM) is a two-year diploma course, which will be offered in 9 institutes. These institutes are located in Manjhaul (Begusarai), Madhepura, Naugachia, Paliganj (Patna), Pakridayal (East Champaran), Raxaul (West Champaran), Phulparas (Madhubani), Dhamdaha and Baisi (Purnea).

General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) is a three-year course which also includes a six months of internship, which will be offered in 4 institutes. These institutes are located in Madhuban (Sitamarhi), Motihara (Kishanganj), Nalanda and Nawada.

Lastly, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) is a four-year graduate degree program, which will be offered in 4 institutes. These institutes are located in Purnea, Bettiah, Saran and Muzaffarpur districts.

These institutes registered/affiliated are functioning under the supervision of their respective district government hospitals.
