Gujarat: Over 250 additional PG medical seats have been approved in various government and medical society-run institutions in Gujarat.

According to the TOI report, the central government has given nod to a major expansion of PG medical seats across India, adding over 11,000 seats in government and self-financed medical colleges.

Regarding the additional PG seats in Gujarat, state government officials said the move is aimed at meeting the growing demand for specialist doctors and strengthening the medical education and healthcare infrastructure in the state.

With this increase, medical colleges in Gujarat will be able to accommodate more postgraduate students in key disciplines such as general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and gynecology. Health department officials said the additional capacity is expected to help address the shortage of medical specialists, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, report TOI.

Officials described the move as a significant step towards expanding India's medical education capacity and improving access to quality healthcare.

Meanwhile, the admission process for these new seats will begin soon under the supervision of the Admissions Committee for Professional Postgraduate Medical Educational Courses (ACPPGMEC). This expansion will benefit the National Eligibility and Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET-PG) qualified candidates who were previously unable to secure seats due to limited availability.

Meanwhile NMC recently released the updated MBBS seat matrix. The seat matrix, published by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), includes details of newly approved colleges, additional seats sanctioned, and renewals for existing MBBS programs.

According to the recent updated MBBS seat matrix, a total of 128925 seats are available this year across 819 medical colleges, including the 11400 MBBS seats that the Commission approved this year.
