Soon in Gujarat: Medical College in Every District, Additional 450 MBBS, 1,011 PG Medical Seats

Gujarat- Every district in Gujarat will soon have a new medical college, along with a total of 450 undergraduate medical (MBBS) seats and 1,011 postgraduate medical seats, Gujarat Health Minister Rishikesh Patel said in the Assembly recently.

As per the TOI report, the minister informed that around an additional 450 undergraduate seats and 1,011 postgraduate seats had been applied for by various institutes with the NMC for which the state government has granted essentiality certificates. 

Besides this, while replying to a question about the number of Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS) seats in Gujarat, the minister informed that at present there are a total of 2,044 MD seats and 932 MS seats in medical colleges in Gujarat. He also added that in the last two years, 446 MD seats and 211 MS seats have increased.

Along with this, the Health Minister also informed that currently, there are a total of 3,139 postgraduate (PG) seats in the medical colleges of Gujarat state. Out of these, 2,044 seats are available for PG degree (MD-3 years) recognized by NMC (National Medical Commission), 932 seats for PG degree (MS-3 years), 124 seats for PG Super Specialty (DM/MCH 3 years) and 39 seats for PG Diploma (2 years).

The minister said, "Prime Minister Modi has resolved to build a medical college in every district of the country and the state government is making continuous efforts to achieve this goal. The target of building a medical college in every district of Gujarat is about to be accomplished”, quoted TOI.
