Two Doctors Among Six Dead in Building Collapse
New Delhi: Two young doctors were among six people killed when an illegally constructed building allegedly collapsed in South Delhi’s Saidulajab on Saturday night.
What began as an ordinary evening—students gathering for tea, meals, and small celebrations after academic milestones—ended in tragedy within seconds as the structure came crashing down, burying those inside under debris.
Among the deceased were young aspirants preparing for highly competitive examinations, including engineering services and medical licensing tests, as well as a local canteen owner.

According to the news reports, the deceased doctors, aged 26 and 24, had both completed their MBBS degrees from universities in Kyrgyzstan and were in Delhi preparing for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE).
Speaking to Hindustan Times, his family said he had completed his MBBS from a university in Kyrgyzstan in 2024 and had been staying in Saidulajab for the last year and a half, preparing for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination. His father is a farmer in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda. “He had taken loans to send him for his MBBS degree. He was very hopeful that he would clear the exam on June 28,” said Raheem Rajput, 26, his roommate, who is also preparing for the same exam. Rajput said the deceased and a few friends had gone to the mess to have tea. “After the exam, we had decided to go on a trip together.”
Another victim, originally from Rajasthan’s Alwar district, had also been staying in the area for FMGE preparation. Police said her body was pulled out of the debris around 4 p.m.
Her father said the family had spoken to her shortly before the collapse and had no indication of any danger. “We were informed about the incident at 9 p.m., and we rushed here,” he said.
The doctor is survived by her parents and two younger sisters.
Following the incident, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) suspended two engineers responsible for the area on charges of dereliction of duty and negligence. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the site on Sunday to review the rescue operation and said no one responsible for the tragedy would be spared. The investigation is underway, police said, adding that they have detained the building owner and registered an FIR, reports The Indian Express.
